I personally think thats not unique to One piece, i think like many other Shounens of this type Mid Gen eqvivalent doest just exist

Like there is no Rocks, Roger and whoever else of the Mid gen. Like in other battle shounen there is a gap between old legends and the new protags /their kids

This goes double for Oda fo me because he is extremly on the nose with parallel stuff. If there is parallel usually the whole Fandom agrees and there is no argument about (unless really retarded individuals like with the gaban thing), which is not the case for Mid gen

So yeah mid gen has no counterparts to me to old legends. This even tracks with direct story statments, ignoring usual shounen structure: Whitebeard list a bunch of old names at his meeting with Shanks, and says no one knows how rough the seas where (because of the people that were around), why would he say that if there "equals" were there now? Why would Doffy say things getting intressting, a 40 something year dude, with Luffys entrance, are there no other dudes? Again i think regardless if you disagree or agree i think its obvious what i mean
