Yeah making fun of Kaido for his rookie stuff doesn't make sense.
I never laughed at him being humbled by rocks etc, he was far from his prime.
But I definitely make fun of Kaido for almost dying to Oden was was his same age an both were almost 40.
And for being equal to Moria, who lost only because of his crew.
Kaido was never the strongest. But, maybe this chapter portrays Shiki as below oden and Kaido himself, since Oda made clear that Kaido didn't fight Garp.
Kaido top 5 seems to be based on who he knows, and cmon he knew Shiki.
I might have Shiki < Oden ≈ Kaido < Prime Gaban.

I understand your frustration with the Cover Story, but trust. Something epic awaits us for sure. Maybe Oda will wait until he can transition from Cover Story to the actual Manga panel similar to the whole cake island cover story when Kuzan kidnapped pudding, and later we saw them in the manga on a ship with her. The only question is how Oda would fit that in again. I don't think we will get a view of the world anytime soon, hm. But who knows?
