Can we stop sayin that characters got "ruined"? Nothing has been "ruined". Oda simply completed the story of Roger and Whitebeard, so you will have little to nothing to learn more now. The rest relies on other characters.

I didn't say the character was ruined, I said the character's image was ruined for me. There's a big difference.

I think that WB is kind of more consistent throughout the story, while with Roger it was all over the place during that last flashback. So I feel somewhat disappointed at the lack of consistency and foreshadowing. With Rocks it's easier, he was a blank canvas, the only thing we knew about him is that he had almost all future Yonkos in his crew, and we got his story in one sitting.

I actually quite enjoy both Elbaph and the flashback, last time I was that excited when reading OP was during the beginning of Egghead. But there are still things I like less than the others, and Rogers portrayal is one of them.

For example, his simping for Shakky. I'd say that overall I am not a fan of "Shakky=national treasure" plot, and the way Roger behaved around Shakky kinda came out of nowhere, at least to me. I understand that that happened quite long ago when he was a lot younger, but nothing in previous characterization of Roger implied that he would behave like Sanji. As the story leads us, it says that Luffy is Roger's spiritual successor, and how similar they were, down to their dream, so I expected Roger to be more Luffy-like.

It's my take tho, we can agree to disagree with no hard feelings. I plan to re-read the whole Elbaf arc once it ends anyways, because I tend to miss some stuff when reading weekly over a long period of time:)

Yea this is less of a Roger problem and more of a Shakky plot problem. This shit was so unnecessary. Thankfully God Valley as a whole was so good the shakky bs wasn't strong enough to ruin it.
It still bothers me that Loda made the all female warrior crew a meme non fighting idol band. Such a disgrace

I feel like if the Elbaf elders let Harald marry Ida things would’ve ended very different for him.

Lili might had broke free from the contract somehow, or at best she takes control back for a short period of time.

Ida could be one of the reason to break free from the contract. But Oda makes her dies earlier so Harald is fully locked in it.

Now Brook might be the only way to break Gunko free from contract, it's going to happen.

I understand that that happened quite long ago when he was a lot younger, but nothing in previous characterization of Roger implied that he would behave like Sanji.

But... That's not the case. Shakky was just.... very attractive to them. It's was a crush... it happens all the time. lol

Perhaps you are weirded out by the hearth eyes. and attitudeBut if that the case, you shouldn't be calling that an inconsistency, it's actually a proof of coherency. Oda, exagerates everything for romance (not love, but idea) so this exaggeration is perfectly coherent.

Oh.. this is what I call an illegitimate expectations. The story never told us Roger was like Luffy on everything. The story implicited that what made Luffy and Roger similar was their genuine child-like seeking adventure spirit. In reality, there are many aspect in which Luffy and Roger are not similar, Luffy being asexual for ex, but also in the way Luffy deals with threats, in this case, it's Ace who is Roger like.

Your arguments are fair, I simply don't believe they hold a narrative logic. So I'm trying to bring a new look. Perhaps you will see it differently next time.

It's ok, for once, I don't mind. This was an understandable illegitimate expectation. I just think people have projected a little too much of Luffy into Roger/Roger into Luffy, and are not looking at the nuances that are pretty crazy at times. Roger and Ace, in a sense, were very similar to Oden, they lacked a real a strong faith in their pears, so they tend to overestimate their own capacities. Luffy is the opposite.

Why ? This was not overdone, it was a funny preparation for a tearfull and heartwarming reunion.. It created a little bit of freshair and humanized the legends that were - frankly - over mysticalized(?)... Really, it was a nice way to introduce god Valley. I think it was a necessary addition at least to create coherency and humanization of the characters.

There are def gonna be nuances, Loki didn't stab Jarul in the head, the guards stabbing Harald, Harald is probably gonna beg them to do it cause after he kills one of them controlled by Imu etc.

There are gonna be some mixed factors, Loki getting Ragnir + his df too as he doesn't seem he has Ragnir yet. Jarul most likely tried to stop Harald too.
