One Piece Chapter 1172: The Elbaf I Admire

On the cover page...Bon Kurei is back?! Man, we haven't seen Bon Kurei since 2012! (Chapter 666). I kind of wish it was a more substantial appearance than this, showing us how things are going in Impel Down, but it's something, at least.

It's recap time! Fair enough. We have been in flashback-land since last June. I guess some fans might need to be caught back up to speed on what's going on during the present day.

Scopper calls Gunko's arrow ability "strange". Not sure if it's just because he doesn't understand it, or because Oda's hinting that it's different than it appears. Or maybe I'm reading WAY too much into it. We'll see. It doesn't seem like this Devil Fruit should be a secret God Fruit, but I guess it's not impossible.

Goldberg is willing to eat people in order to get around the God's Knight's regeneration. That's kind of worrying. Noted. This guy is kind of messed up. Along with his living shield, he does seem to have some similarities to Big Mom. Maybe he's a fan?

Also, Scopper doesn't mention sensing Imu's power or anything about that Haki blast he felt (Chapter 1151). So, either he doesn't know that was Imu's Haki or he's keeping it a secret for some reason.

That spread with the Nightmare Monsters is kind of cool. Demon-Nika seem to be having fun.

Huh. Road has a little brother. Bjorn. I had to look him up, but I guess they do look similar. I guess that hairstyle that covers one eye runs in the family.

These kids couldn't reach the harbor even after that LONG backstory we just went through. These are some SLOW children. There should be a sign for that.

Brook just abandoned everybody?! I'm guessing he's preparing something to knock some sense into Gunko, but still.

Oh...Jarul's making it sound like Imu killed Harald. Which...is partially true, I guess. That's kind of clever of the old man. Good for you, Jarul! So, I guess Loki's "good" name is cleared! That's one plot line resolved quick!

"If the Harley Prophecies are true...the World is bound to face a great divide one day..." Now, that's interesting wording. I'm curious what the original Japanese text for this line is. Because, I DO wonder how literal "great divide" actually is. Given the holes in the ocean, and the possibility that the World is hollow, I kind of wonder if the entire World could end up opening up by the end of the story. Like a giant gachapon capsule. Or...maybe like a Pokeball...

"This little reversi game" Ooooh! Imu better put some ointment on that sick BURN!

300 years ago, Jarul was known as the strongest being to ever come from Elpbah. Okay. Interesting. I wonder how THAT legend got started? Time for another flashback? (Just kidding...maybe.)

And Imu...doesn't really react at all to Jarul's message. I just want to point that out. Imu doesn't rage. Or declare vengeance. Or cackle maniacally, thirsting for battle. Imu is rather...controlled here. If anything, it kind of comes across as...resigned, maybe? Which is just strange for a villain. But, not that strange if Oda is planning on giving Imu a reason for doing all this. I still believe Imu's not going to end up being the main villain, even after all this.

And Zoro has a plan! Hopefully, he doesn't get lost before he can actually do anything!

Well...that was mostly a recap chapter. Not a bad one, though. And we see the Giants still have their fighting spirit. So, that's a nice moment. I do feel like we could have moved things a *little* farther forward. But, oh well. Hopefully, next chapter Loki and everyone else shows up, so that we can get this fight started for real!
I wonder if Jarul and Jorul ever met Montblanc Noland. Or if Noland ever came to Elbaf, since he was a well-traveled man.

We know that he visited Greenbit / the Tontatta tribe. There were some connections people made to the story of Guillivers travels, where the protagonist traveled to the land of Giants, the land of the dwarfes and 2 other locations.

:hope:

Oddly...Jarul probably isn't old enough to have known Mont Blanc Noland.

Jarul is currently 408 years old. Mont Blanc Noland was born 453 years ago (according to the wiki). And since he was executed when he was 39, that means he would have been dead for 6 years before Jarul was even born. They JUST missed each other. So, Noland couldn't have met Jarul, even as a baby.

But, I guess Noland COULD have known Jarul's father or grandfather? Nothing ever said Noland didn't go to Elbaph. Though, it'd be weird that didn't make it into his book. But, he didn't really mention the Tontatta, either. They were really focused on the Sky Islands, I guess. So, I could see Noland having visited the Giants. But, no one would be alive from that time to remember it, at this point.

But...there is the Owl Library on Elbpah. Maybe Noland left behind a book, that got added to the library's collection at some point? That'd be kind of interesting. Though...with the library currently on fire, that'd actually make the current situation even more tragic.

The official translation just dropped and it says 'the world is destined be to split into two'. Seems like the end game is going to have two factions fighting each other. One side is Luffy and the other side is the enemies.

Curious to see which two sides will be split, is it going to be the Red Line or Grand Line. How is it going to split? like the Earth cut in half, two hemisphere or cloud/sea or maybe just some works from DF phenomenal.
