Both Jaimini Box and Manga Stream translations are out.
Neither translation states turning a black blade increases its grade. Yes, I know the official Viz translation it's out, but based on the information we have a black blade only levels up or ranks the strength of the blade, not the quality of the blade which is determined when a sword is created. That makes perfect sense. Remember, Mihawk stated any sword can become a black blade and making it that will stop the sword from ever breaking. Having a stronger blade doesn't increase the quality of the blade. There's a difference.
All of that means is Shusui is a great grade sword regardless if it's a black blade or not.

and fake news supreme grade sword. it won't go in rank if zoro makes it black, it will still be one of the 21. them fake translators fooled us yet again.
and this makes me think zoro will get supreme grade sword later on, when one of these swords breaks or something. like maybe gorosei sword? or shilliew's sword? don't know where else he could find it. maybe shanks gives him his sword or mihawk.

I believe what happened was some translated the word as "rank" while others translated the word as "level". The ones that translated the word as "rank" automatically assumed it was talking about the grade of the sword not the strength of the blade. I believe when the manga is talking about the sword/blade grade and ranking it, it's talking about how well the sword/blade is overall crafted. Yes, the strength of the sword/blade is part of that but it only makes up one part. Another part would be how well the sword/blade can hold a sharp edge and is it crooked. Turning a blade black only makes the blade stronger. Remember, Mihawk stated any sword can become a black blade and using haki the user can make their sword so strong it never breaks. Clearly, that has nothing to do with how well a sword is made.
Look at it this way. If you have a poor quality sword with dull and crooked blade turning it black won't fix the problems. You will just have a poor quality sword that won't break.

I guess after the failed raid is when Zoro will visit Ryuma’s shrine to discover something about how to blacken swords...and interesting that Wado and Enma were made by a Shimotsuki. Zoro’s personal connections to the name grow stronger.
