Rusty is putting it lightly lol. Those Marines mentioned back in Thriller Bark he went toe to toe with Kaido, and in MF he's getting bodied by Jinbe, and fights on par with Whitebeard's 10th commander.

Then gets taken out by a bunch of Pacifistas that Boa was one shotting with ease.

That what I mean he gotten lazy and rusty and thus didn't keep up his fighting since he thought using Oars and zombie army was all he needed. It shows there is no shortcut to being PK especially that way.

Considering he's dying, I'd say he doesn't want to make the audience attached to him.
