  • Corazon in the anime and manga this week. There's no way Oda doesn't supervise every episode before it airs.
  • Robin interested in the D:yasu:

  • Eustass "The Janitor" Kid cleaning up Onigashima's trash. Funny that Poker got introduced early just for Kid to bully.
  • Kaido dragging his club towards you with the sound of his foot steps during the break.:chopoff:

  • Either Kaido entered Drunk Tantrum Mode or smashing the ground is a euphemism for each Scabbard getting whacked.
  • That music and frozen atmosphere as Zoro slowly paces towards Apoo is more menacing than Kaido.:emohiyo:

  • Chopper making an announcement got turned into a sakuga moment?

  • Not as interesting if you can see Sanji wants to save a generic girl from a generic guy. Maybe that's the surprise - that something meaningful comes out of this, but I would have used silhouettes here.
Nice episode. Enough good moments to make it an enjoyable experience. Several pieces of reused animation, all together they just replace the weekly recap. Neat use of static to reflect Corazon's ability; the letterboxing all episode bringing focus to key scenes like Big Mom going up as Kin'emon and Kiku's arm go down. The Scabbards getting one final hurrah as they stab Kaido before getting blown away by his elemental powers and put to bed with the club was satisfying. I especially liked the color tones and all their intense faces.

That Zoro scene tho. Realizing it's Kiku's arm, everything going black and white as Zoro gains a heightened sense of awareness of the battlefield. Like an internal "Get it together!" moment from Punk Hazard. Then the dramatic music and icy atmosphere making it look as if time itself had frozen as Zoro walks toward his prey. Apoo's defeat returning normality. Creative execution minimizing flashiness with no need for red eyes, lightning effects, or the ground turning to cubes. More of that please.

The flashes of Zoro's adventures with Kiku during Act 1 were a real nice touch. They are strangely nostalgic at this point. Perhaps a byproduct of Wano being so long. But best of all, the anime emphasizes that Zoro grows furious at the entire situation around him. His allies, both on the roof and on the live floor are in peril, while he is wasting time. He also remembers why he came to Onigashima to begin with and who he's fighting for: the people of Wano.

Kaido looked fittingly invincible against the Scabbards. Even while they stab him, he is unbothered and swats them just by flexing. That slow walk after decking Kin'emon was even more impactful than the blows. Between that and the red eyes, it's like he was the terminator. By far the most menacing Kaido has appeared apart from his introduction scene.

A bit more of a conservative episode overall with it reuse of animation and flashbacks, but carried by its strong direction, as well as a few strong bits of action.

Despite a ton of flashbacks and reused stuff, they were used in a way that didn't feel like they dragged, but instead punctuated the tone of the scene.

Kaido vs the Scabbards in the first half was animated by Yoshikazu Tomita, and Zoro cutting down Apoo was animated by Junwen Tan.

Overall really good episode. This was said to be a less "heavy" episode by the director Kohei Kureta himself, so this much was expected, but I'm expecting more from their later episodes down the line.
