Phenomenal episode.
The team has been hitting it out of the park as of late. I'm not sure if I'd say it's better than 1015 on a technical level. Not an animation expert, after all, but 1017 definitely was more exciting, and the pace was frenetic. No scene overstayed its welcome, and every participant in the episode received amazing highlights.
Linlin's Indra, upon summoning it, she looked like a goddess when she rain down her lightning and it surrounded her. It was a nice reminder for the audience and the Supernova that she is as deadly as her partner, as most of the attention was on Kaido. She turned the battlefield into hell on earth for an instance.
Peering into Kaido's innards was a smart detail for conveying the efficacy of the internal base attacks from Law and Killer.
Kid benefits greatly from the anime. Fighting with metal, Kid can be the most visually intricate combatant, for we can admire all the little details of what he has gathered composing his mini mech.
Roronoa Zoro.
They nailed everything for him. He is by far the most serious about this battle, and Kaido's mocking of the Samurai shows why. He's been entrusted with an cherished heirloom of their royal family. He respects them and the other warriors of Wano, perhaps, because they are kindred spirits, or perhaps subconsciously, he identifies them as his kin. I described Zoro's Hiryu Kaen as the personification of Wano's anger and retribution against Kaido, and Zoro as its torch bearer. They anime perfectly showcased that. On top of that they went above and beyond for Zoro cutting Kaido's Boro Breath. What was a fairly basic moment in the manga was arguably the standout moment of the whole episode.
Luffy was solid. While the team did try and go all out for the others, they stuck to the tried and true for Luffy. They adapted Luffy facing off the the two Emperors well enough. For a moment, he was faced with these two all alone, nothing else but "guts" as his fall back in that instance.
Kaido's glee facing the Supernova captains at the beginning of the episode was top class. He looked confident, scary, and the little flash here he resembled Onigashima's skull itself sends the message that this is no man, but a beast taking on these men in a life or death game.
