Kid’s railgun actually looked menacing af here. Did the explosion come from the ship’s ammo supply? I always figured it was from the haki lol
...It was from the haki. There were some minor explosions caused by the ammo, but it was clearly predominantly the haki.

I mean not really
Kid didn’t just stupidly challenge the RHP again right after Beckman took his arm.
First he tried building an alliance, but that failed. Kaido fell on him and he got captured. He changed his goals to Kaido. Awakened his powers and got stronger off screen. Mastered awakening and his DF against BM.
Returned to face the BMP as a 3 billion berry pirate and actually forced Shanks himself to act.
Luffy did the exact same thing in wano, he just had plot armor. After getting negged the first time he returned in act 3 to face Kaido. He got defeated several more times but he kept getting more chances due to plot until he was strong enough to win.
Kid didn’t get a second round against Shanks due to Jika awakening or some bullshit. He just lost.
Admittedly, Luffy also had a lot of back up and before that point also successfully did the getting into an alliance thing that Kid tried and failed to do(partially because he was set up).
I think Luffy is shown to have more luck, but is also of the personality where he naturally gathers allies to support his failings.
Against Kaido, Luffy also had the luck of actually fighting Kaido the first time around, so he had an idea of how strong he was and how he needed to improve.
Kid had never faced Shanks before, he'd probably never even seen him so he had no idea of the difference in power that he needed to overcome.
With Big Mum as well, he had back up from Law(and he still nearly lost that, I'll also say that I still think Law's internal damage did a crap ton to "soften up" Big Mum for Kidd's attacks, and even throughout the fight Law's attacks are the ones that Big Mum is particularly worried about). Even considering his fighting with Kaido, Kaido never fought Kidd seriously.
Overall, he was just unlucky fighting Shanks.
He might have done better against Blackbeard. (Law at least managed to get some licks in on a proper emperor before being beaten unlike Kidd)

I don’t know where you get this, there’s plenty of evidence where Luffy is hot headed and full of himself. He even wanted to 1v1 Kaido and told Yamato to back off. The bigger the challenge, the more he gets excited. The stronger the opponent, the more he wants to surpass them.
Is he willing to listen to reason from people like his crew? Sometimes yes, sometimes no and the SHs even knows this. There are times where he picks his battles but most of the times he charges straight ahead without a plan.
Thats why the crew is there bro.
His crew seriously moderates his behaviour so he doesn't immediately rush in to face everyone.
