Meh. Edits are all the same these days. Hard beats, no matches to the lyrics, a ton of random effects, and every style looking practically the same.

I'm by far not even mediocre in editing. But I still remember when AMVs used to be good, people actually tried to match the song either by lyrics (my favorite kind), by beats, or tried to tell a story with clip choice.

Like this person, this is a Sanji AMV, but OMG is it one of the best I've seen, tells a story and matches the lyrics:

An AMV needs to have soul and heart in it or it's just a slideshow with fancy effects. It needs to serve a purpose or have a meaning.
Random Song to Random Clips with every effect and transition you can throw on it is not a good edit.

As for matching songs, if a song is slow it shouldn't have hard fast clips, if a song is fast, if it uses slow clips they should serve a purpose. If a song is singing about the sun, unless you're doing it ironically don't start throwing clips of battle and blood. If a song is singing about killing an enemy, don't play clips about every day life. Things like that.
