He can also grab his daughter and just teleport you know. Seems like he's confident enough that he can do something, didn't look like that against Akainu when not even for a second he actually tried fighting him even though he had no issues nuking the place seconds before Akainu confronted him.

Also I'm not too worried about Akainu’s lethality. He was lethal enough when it mattered in the story.
