It fits with the goofiness of OP but its very weird especially for the reasons you gave. Also given how dark an arc Wano was tonally (ignore the shitty gifters especially but there is some genuine horror with them too), I completely agree. I suppose if it happened vs an Admiral, the WG or Blackbeard or w/e, it would be just as unfitting too.
Hell I'm expecting Shanks arc to be more like when he told those bandits about not using guns lightly and Roux/Roo just shot that guy dead instantly with no hesitation, that was fucking raw and cold and I've been hoping Oda won't forget that for when Shanks and his crew do take the spotlight EVENTUALLY! "No pirate games", "piracy is serious business". But given how he wrote gangsters with Big Mom and Capone, I'm not entirely hopeful but I did really enjoy his writing of Capone especially still.
It is very odd for a pirate manga too but OP seems to have really changed genres now or we were being mislead all along, Oda wanted us to think it was a simple pirate, adventure manga when he planned something FAR more drastic and different all along, the greatest, long con, like the retcon of the Gomu Gomu too even.
Hell OP started out being all about Roger and the One Piece but they feel like they are getting sidelined gradually, with absolute breadcrumbs for both even after 25 years especially. Plus with the series revolving around Xebec/Rocks Pirates, The World Government and now the Imu reveal instead of the Gorosei being the top dogs and politics generally.
I do love Gear 5, I really loved The Mask growing upas well as those wacky cartoons and rubberhose animation like Popeye, early Mickey Mouse stuff, Looney Tunes, Asterix and Obelix, The Mask ofc and whatever else. It just feels quite out of place but given how long OP has gone one for, it feels like Oda has decided to compromise on his future planned manga series and take those ideas and put them into OP instead, hence why its so different now, why we've had such drastic shakeups and and such. I can't hate him for that.
Hes just living out his dreams vicariously through OP too. One Piece is all about dreams too or is meant to be anyway. Dream dream fruit where? Surprised that has not appeared yet of all things, especially for a character like Blackbeard too or for someone to Luffy to conflict against directly at least.
The only things I hate about Gear 5th is that its so fucking OP, that Kaido was mostly helpless vs it but Luffy wasnt doing lethal damage to him, just psychologically fucking with him which I also LOVED and thought was necessary vs an absolutely unstoppable monster like Kaido too. It will be crucial vs Blackbeard and especially Akainu and Imu too imo.
I also hate that it retconned the Gomu Gomu and it being a Paramecia. We saw from Katakuri that Oda was experimenting the possibility of "Special Paramecias" and even mistakenly calling Katakuri a Logia too at first, so it feels like he was unsure of what do with Luffys fruit in hindsight too and thus DFs in general. We still dont know how or why Paramecias awaken but Zoan ones make sense at least.
Can't believe a single Beast Pirate didnt show us a single Ancient Zoan awakening either given all the Ancient Zoans and being a Yonko crew but my LAST hope for that right now is Drake and maybe Oda is purposely saving it for him as part of his hopefully big redemption arc. Let Drake have some actual big Ws please Oda!
I was just thinking about Luffys fruit retcon yesterday or earlier or w/e and imo, I know it might not be a popular idea, but I think Luffys fruit should have been a "chimera DF", not a Chimera Zoan BUT a manufactured hybrid of a Resin Logia, this Nika Zoan I guess or something and the Gomu Gomu Paramecia. Maybe the Gomu Gomu Paramecia would be the original form and its stretchy nature and thus lineage factor or w/e would allow this hybrid fusion whatever to happen somehow. Scientifc nonense, not my speciality lol, even though I studied Chemistry and Physics at higher level, go figure (skating) lmfao.
But tbh I would have rather Luffy always was just a rubber paramecia, I loved his fruit and his creative uses of it pre TS especially, his extremely adaptive/versatile moveset and such.
We've still not seen Logia awakenings either and given how completely broken and near unstoppable Logias were pre TS, I'm extremely scared for how broken they will be, especially as Admirals mostly have Logias except 1 ofc (Fujitora has one of the MOST broken powers ever regardless) and thus how OVERPOWERED their awakenings are gonna be especially, the implication that they might permanently change the environment too. (I suspect Raijin is from Enels fruit, Enies from Kizarus, Gods Valley might have been sucked up by the awakening of the Yami or maybe Imu just nuked it like Lulusia and so on)
I've always been against the denial of a water logia being possible. In a series all about sailing/piracy and magical powers including elemental? People really believe a water logia could not exist? Swamp fruit is pretty close too. Caesar could make water too potentially I think or Aokiji if he could melt his ace or Monet with her snow too. Hell, ive wanted to a Steam logia fruit appear too! Like an upgrade/alternative of Smokers fruit in some ways maybe.
Imu backwards is Umi or sea in Japanese as we know too and what better for the one who rules the world, to have a fruit based around waer, which makes up 70% of the world or w/e? Or more? Also our bodies are like 60-70% water right? Imu could be the sea devil itself, the sea taken form to take wrath upon those who abuse it, especially devil fruit users and hence why it takes away their ability to swim and why seastone nullifies/weakens DFs too.
I doubt this was a throwaway line from Shanks of ALL people too. Given how influential, well connected and thus important he is and how he seems to know more than he lets on, he must know something, especially given his captain was THE Pirate King too.

So relatable lol. Ive had severe insomnia issues since 2010 after an extreme mental breakdown. Its hell. Usually I have wait for my sleep pattern to fix itself as I can never do it myself. Feels like trying to recover from an illness.
