I find very hard to find out that Sommers ends being "fodder" to be one of the final villains from the story.

If they got defeated soon, then these ones (Sommers, Killingham and Gunko) are the low tier amongst the God Knights.

It takes all of them and more to defeat these 3.
First Loki and then Shams and his daddy will be the big boys of the arc.

Sanji is going to split and save a women from sommer.

Oda gonna keep zoro out of the way (gag getting lost) until shamrock comes

luffy is gonna wait and fight gunko until Loki fully recovers

It will be a waste for Sommers... But well, Oda plays always his game.

These three got defeated, Shamrock arrives with the remaining God Knights (the strongest ones) and things start to get dark for the good side. Repeat.
