But the Gorosei weren't as bad as the Holy Knights, even with their regen, they were still portrayed as huge threats.
Why else do you think it took the Giants, The Vegapunks, The Pacifistas, and Emet, all together to help the Straw Hats escape.
Even Saturn who was the biggest bum out of them, was still more threatening than Super Sommers and Killingham.
I will also give an excuse to the Elders for the fact, that Egghead was an escape arc, and the Elders with the exception of Saturn, couldn't go all out.
There is a reason why we have yet to see the hybrid forms for three of the Elders.
Overall we have to wait and see how Oda portrays the Elders again in the future, if he portrays them similar to Saturn again or even to the Holy Knights, then I will admit they are officially massive bums as well.

Also the only interesting gorosei seems to be garling and the only strong Hk seems to be shamrock, both hinted to have their own agendas and will eventually betray imu
