I know you won't believe me, but Oda's never even thought about it the way you just laid out. Try to think outside of powerscaling mindset bro
Nope, he knows what he is doing. This is why Zoro wasn't able to touch Imu.
Unless he is a really incompetent writer.
Oh and if you really want "tension" and "competent" then you better hope my "Imu will kill Usopp" theory comes true :endthis: :usoprice::chopoff:
Competent means building up a villain as someone who feels like an unbreakable obstacle who can be dangerous to the crew, and unpaired so much that the MC cannot take them easily. Such as Aokiji in W7 and Kuma in Thriller Bark, or Akainu at Marinford. You need to explain why Imu, for example, cannot be defeated right now, if he is the Final Villain.

Another problem with Oda is that unlike others mangakas, he doesn't care about aura for his villains (at least not in recent years)

-Before we saw Kaido in action, he show him crying and drunk.
-Before we saw Imu true form, he made Imu kneels in pain.
-Kizaru first showcase in Egghead was being blocked by Sentomaru
-Saturn first transformation' appearance ended in Bonney stabbing him.
-Gorosei first transformation' appearance ended with the giants cutting them in half and blocking their attacks.
-We have not see Garling fighting in the present and Oda already ruined him in a fb.

And those are just the recent villains, let's not go to Katakurri' mouth and donuts scenes, BB being a coward, etc...

At least one chapter in, Real Imu looked fine. Let's see this week.

Is hard to take Imu seriously afterwards if Loki and Luffy are enough here (even if he's not full power)

Like, let's invite Shanks next time to join us and we have the job done:zosleepy:
The dilemma is Imu can't completely win either. If he wins then on paper Luffy and Loki die and the story just ends

That clearly can't happen. People want Oda to randomly become a grimdark Warhammer writer overnight and just start killing all these characters off while Imu ends up victorious

Luffy and Loki will either stall Imu out or someone will mess with the summoning circle which may send Imu back to Mariejois. It'll be a "draw"

I agree. And Imu will show he's unbeatable here, but he'll have to retreat for plot reasons. My issue with your posts is that you're so sure Oda will clown him lol

Nah those are peak, I love those scenes that show villains as goofies and diverse characters, I'm more referring to them showing their abilities, which he always hypes at the start of an arc.

One Piece villains not all having "aura" makes them kinda funny and fun to stan though. Katakuri secretly being a donut addict is part of what makes him a fan favorite amongst all OP antagonist

BB wouldn't be BB if he wasn't a fat clown that fails upwards sometimes. That's why he stands out compared to a lot of antagonist from different shonen

The most discussed part of Crocodile's character is his secret embarrassing past with Ivankov

Sure, I think maintaining a villains presence is important but it's nice to see Oda tread a different path. One Piece's bread and butter is being different in this regard

Something will pull him back to MJ.

No, I don't want any character to die. And No, I don't want Imu to be the winner. I undertand the art of "being saved by the plot" if it's done in a good way. As long as the villain look good and is never stopped by the main character, but others circunstances, I don't have a problem with that.

Look at Luffy escape in Marine Ford for example. 3 admirals couldn't stop him, but Oda never drew Luffy dealing with them, it was just a bunch of powerful characters assisting Luffy and stalling them, no defeating them. (Unlike the Lorosei in Egghead that were Luffy' and everyone's punching bags, and they were unable to launch some attacks against anyone)

What you suggest is that Luffy himself with Loki are able to stall Imu, nah, that's not tension... nobody will take Imu seriously that way.

I agree on the time limit thing, but Oda need to sell on the perception that Loki and Luffy are about to lose/die.

The author can kill any SH, plus there are ways to end this arc in crazy situation, completely defeated, without killing. Again, everything depends on the author.

I agree with Imu's scream situation. Emeth was a plot device, but the way how it worked downplayed one of the final villains so much, that you wasn't beign able to take him seriosly.
There's no stronger without context in OP lol
But there was shown context.
