Ive read enough of this thread to question why people think its shocking that a depressing, dark story about rape and demons etc. like beserk isn't that popular among the majority of Japan lol.

Mind you, I love Berserk but it isnt rocket science why it isnt at the top of the list. Clearly Shonen will always be the more popular genre guys and for alot of people that have been following the series and been on the journey with the characters from the beginning, One Piece is the best one. Not that hard or shocking. One Piece is more popular than DB over there M8. The only people that complain constantly about this series are the vocal minority on forums like this and thats the truth lol.

What does the god like animation of the anime have to do with the manga?

Everything, no one ever talked about atack on titan before the anime, know why? Because the manga was just average, the art was complete utter dogshit to the point where it was hard diferentiating the characters. They made a fucking great anime and it become mainstream, even the manga as people where more willing to deal with the garbage art to know what happened next in the story.

Demon slayer is the same thing, the manga is average, but the anime improved on everything on the manga specialy the fight scenes and due to that it became popular. Demon slayer manga sales only spiked after the anime, before that it was just average to mediocre.

Definely, but the question here is WHY they keep funding it soo hard.

Because anime boosts the fuck out of manga sales, and merchandise in general. It is what brings most mangas to a mainstream media. And that goes double for light novels, do you think sword art online would be as mainstream as it is now withoud an anime?

My point is that both Industries would suffer without each other

Even western Animation always relied on other industries to survive. Early cartoons were played in between Movies in Theatre. Hanna Barbara were cheap as piss. 80s Cartoons relied on Toys sales. 90-now Cartoons rely on funding by Bigger companies.
