This is a topic I've always wanted to create, it's a discussion comparing certain series and having users give us reasons on why they think one series is better than the other.

Also this topic is not about which series you like more but which series you think is better.

I might do this for other series as well but for now the focus will be on One Piece vs Kingdom.

There are only two rules for this topic:

1. Try to keep it civil

2. Try not to spoil things from the manga and if you want to spoil certain things just use the spoiler tag

Now as for the topic itself between One Piece vs Kingdom which series do you think is better?

I usually don't tag people, and I'm not too sure who to tag so the only person I'm tagging is @Admiral Lee Hung

I cant really choose between the two. Firstly, there is a fundamental difference as One Piece is shonen for 15 year olds wheil Kingdom is a seinen.

Next, Kingdom has dark panels like this =>
Beheading is like an every chapter thing in Kingdom, while the darkest One Piece panels I can think of is probably Inu-Neko's arm and leg being cut off. In terms of seriousness, they cant be compared. One Piece is full of goofy moments while Kingdom's mood is pretty serious.

In my personal opinion, the peak of One Piece is higher than Kingdom. I cant really think of anything beating Ennis Lobby or Marineford in Kingdom. Not many mangaka has ever reached this height of epicness =>

That being said, the average or bad arcs of Kingdom easily beats average or bad arcs of One Piece. This one thing I have to give to Hara. This man is extremely consistent. The quality of his arcs will never go down to the level of Fishman Island or Foxy arc. Even the Fire Dragon of Wei, which I consider the worst arc of Kingdom, blows most post-timeskip arcs out of water.

Oh goodness lol. Cant get sucked into this debate right now lol.

Long story short, Kingdom Reigns supreme. It is a critically acclaimed manga that has outsold OP despite not even having a passable anime adaptation. I may elaborate later but Kingdom blows OP out of the water for me.
I've yet to read Kingdom because it's so long but I hear it's one of the best manga ever written.

Both are fundamentally different manga .
Art : One Piece - 7.5 Kingdom - 9.5
Story : One Piece - 9 Kingdom - 7
World Building : One Piece - 9 , Kingdom - 8
Character Designing : One Piece - 9.5 Kingdom - 7

Overall : One Piece - 8.5 Kingdom - 7

Kingdom has real life art work , and many people like it over One Piece's. But I prefer One Piece Art because of it's diversity.
One piece is college with dozens of iconic character s
Kingdom has better plot arc , while One Piece is struck in its own set of rules.
Since Kingdom is based on real life events , there is less surprising factor , while we get surprising factor in each one piece arc.
Kingdom fights look cool on page but are very repetitive , and after some point you will get bored , while since diversity of power and abilities you rarely get bored with One Piece fights. Since there are lots of characters to please you.

One Piece is actually one of the most predictable manga out there, especially as of late since the post timeskip saga is just a repeat of the pre timeskip saga but worse. I’m part of the Kingdom community that actually reads historical spoilers, and I can tell you that we are still surprised by Kingdom on a chapter by chapter basis. Hara uses history as a roadmap but still throws huge plot twists into the manga left and right.

Hara is also easily a much better foreshadower than Oda. The man planned everything that was going to happen in Kingdom right from the start, unlike Oda who was originally planning to write a 5 year manga but then started artificially extending the plot. Hara foreshadowed a battle that only just happened in 2019 back in like, 2003 with lightning accuracy.

One Piece fights are long, drawn out messes where diversity of power doesn’t exist because of Haki and the main characters win by taking an unlimited amount of damage and fatigue while their opponents have their damage thresholds restricted by the plot. Kingdom fights are short, sweet, and to the point where most characters have diverse fighting methods despite not having crazy DF powers that are made redundant by Haki.

Recently, OP battles have been massively downgraded in scale at a time where the battles are supposed to be larger than ever. We are 100 chapters into Wano and have still seen like, 0 hybrid Zoan forms, while for comparison Lucci revealed his hybrid form instantly. Like I said, Oda artificially extending the plot.

Kingdom’s tactical, strategic, political battles, mind games, etc...blow OP’s out of the water. One Piece is filled with a bunch of clown-tier goons playing 2D checkers and often forgetting all of their pieces. Kingdom is filled with objective geniuses playing 4D chess on 3 different boards at the same time.

Kingdom battles blow OP battles away in every aspect dude. Easily.

Really complicated to compare both of them

We love to shit on One piece on regular basis but overall this is/was a great great ride. One piece is not bad at all.

But it is still a shonen for younger people while Kingdom is more for older teens / young adults.

Kingdom is really great but let’s not be carried away it is not perfect either.

I can compare HxH AOT and FMA. Naruto Bleach and One piece. But One piece and Kingdom difficult.

One piece for his targeted public did an amazing job and some arcs / moments are legendary !

Art wise : One piece is really not bad some panels can me messy but overall the art is good. I like the sheer originality of the character design even if lately Oda got carried away and made more and more weird/huge/monstrous design. He is at his best with simpler / human designs. Solid 7/8 for Oda I think.

Art wise kingdom is really good and has his own style (that we can like or not) with faces body parts etc. Solid 8.5/9

Kingdom story is great and even if they have real history to back up the plot they still have to make characters battles interactions politics etc etc. But it is indeed true that having history as back up is a bit easier than creating everything from ground to celling. Plus Kingdom have some shonen trad parts : Shin and his band being MC shonen protag, Shin wanting to be GG (classic shonen goal), Kyoukai being OP etc. 8. Shin beating Houken is a classic shonen battle.

Why do you people compare an Action Adventure Fantasy Shonen Manga with a Historical Epic Manga?
It's like comparing Messi & Buffon

There is no such thing as Superior Manga if they are from Different Genres completely
It becomes a matter of personal taste

The only thing we can compare is Success & Effort made to tell story of said Manga
And One Piece is Vastly Superior in both
Other than that, it's personal taste

Kingdom actually out-sold One Piece during One Piece’s most hyped arc of all time, and this is despite Hara not even having a passable anime while Oda is constantly trying to shift the blame for his problems on Toei lol.

In terms of effort, Oda may have been hospitalized but that does not mean he puts in more work than Hara. Kingdom is a weekly manga with chapters that are more packed with high quality art and plot developments than any manga out there, period.

One Piece feels like you have to slug your way through 10 weeks of chapters that only feel half finished to get to one good thing, while Kingdom chapters are individually filled to the brim with earth shattering plot developments.
