We are talking about shonen. The main rival of mc is always someone around the same age of MC. And the main rival always has a better design and character than MC. Sasuke is better than Naruto; Eustass Kid is better than Luffy; Bakugo is better than Deku.
It's laughable who thinks BB will even fight Luffy. Kid is being developed for this role.
First Oda make a friendship btw Kid and Luffy in Wano. Then Kid lose to Shanks just to develop his revange against the redhaired. All Shanks purpose in this manga is to be the main reason of Luffy vs Kid fight.

The two final fights of OP will be identical to Naruto final fights.

Next-to-last fight:
Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura vs Kaguya = Luffy/Kid/Law vs Imu

Final final:
Naruto vs Sasuke = Luffy vs Kid

Blackbeard's age is irrelevant, he is also from the same generation of pirates as Luffy

Blackbeard and Luffy are the different sides of same coin; One of the most iconic scene from OP is their encounter
No other characters even come close to rivalry bar Blackbeard

Their crew structure/members all match too

And you really talking about cool designs and all when it's the fucking series with so many goofiest of goofy design exist; current Luffy and possibly strongest character JoyBoy are all goofy AF

With the Nika wank you really think Oda would allow any other characters to fight and beat Imu?

Let me clear things for you:
Age doesnt not matter in that construction, lets take some major inspiring examples in the manga universe for pretty much evry production:
- City hunter ryo saeba has 28 yrs his rival mamouth have more than 45 yrs
- Hokuto no ken vs raoh who is 15 years above him)
- Yu Yu hakusho Yosuke 17 years old vs his rival who took the same path of detective as him, mirroring and Sensui more than 40 yrs old
- Dbz Goku vegeta 10 years difference
- Jojo all villain were at there 40s or more and the protagonist were teens

one piece is not built on such rivaly story construction. stop comparing
kidd is new caractere created at the last minute by oda with a bunch of other characters to serve a certain role no more

Both share the same dream;
Both have as first commanders blade users;
Shanks is Luffy's dream and Kid is Shanks's nightimare;
Both lost their crew members and came back stronger;
