I disagree with this. You can't say Zoro has low IQ on par with Luffy just from these 2 panel of Luffy clowning him. I believe the panel on the right is referencing Zoro's getting lost gag. There's been multiple occasions in the series where Zoro makes plans for Luffy and the Strawhats:

1. Zoro came up with a plan to wrap their arms to counter Bon Clay's DF back in Alabasta, along with a contingency plan if the first one falls through:

2. He broke down and assessed the situation with Robin back in W7 and tells the crew how they should move within in this matter

3. Zoro's plans for the crew about handling Usopp. He even calls Luffy an idiot during is assessment lol

4. Zoro's quick plan on the fly to get Luffy, himself and Kinemon in Doffy's palace

5. Zoro's analysis about the Sanji/Big Mom situation in Zou and how the crew should handle it. Even though Luffy went against it Zoro still assessed the situation pragmatically with the info he had to work with.

Also, Zoro and Luffy have been portrayed as a two man team multiple times outside of the Romance Dawn Trio. The beginning of Wano Act 1, the aqua laguna team up as well as the current arc setup with the recent chapters. That's just off the top of my head.

I agree with most of what you said other than this.

If we're using these moments to say Zoro isn't a low Iq like luffy, then there's plenty of moments with Luffy that we can use to say he isn't a dumbass. Luffy's decision with Nami in Arlong park, he chose to purposely stay there knowing she needed help and waited patiently until she was ready to actually receive help. Him propping up Momo to be a proper leader during Zou, and so on. But their perception is essentially the same in the crew, that outside of battle they're dumbfucks.

The moments with Robin/Ussop/Sanji situation highlighted his role as the Vice-Captain. He's able to maintain that stoicness and put things rationally where as others get bit more emotional. However, in that same situation with Zoro breaking down the situation with Sanji, Luffy quietly listens to them (Nami and Zoro) and then makes his decision.

I just don't think it's right to say Zoro isn't low IQ, but then Luffy is low IQ. Luffy is bit more careless and Zoro is more stoic that's about it. Keep in mind we're talking about in general not their battle IQ or w.e, since they're geniuses in fighting.

Ben Beckman, Shanks' right hand man was highlighted by Oda back in East Blue saga to have been the smartest character introduced in terms of IQ, relating to wisdom and such. Then he mentions Kuro... and then one of the trio members Nami. So Nami is the one who has the "high IQ" role out of them. Hence she's the one who actually runs the crew on the ship not Luffy or Zoro. Where as that's not the case with Roger/Ray, Killer/Kid, Shanks/Beck.
"And having cleared that up, the character with the highest IQ is Shanks' first mate, Benn Beckman. He is a great crewmate, who supports Shanks with his astonishing wisdom and strength. And right after him would probably be Captain Kuro, then Nami, etc."

I agree with you that Zoro and Luffy are a duo/tagteam within that core trio (I've made dozens of posts on these two as a Duo). Much like Dragon & Kuma were also a duo, despite being part of a "core trio".

You have a point. Luffy also has that Alabasta moment with Vivi where he informs her about the reality of warfare. Oda also likes to portray them as the dumbest Strawhats but they have several moments that can refute that.

I see what you're saying, due to the difference in personality Zoro can state and assess his opinion on things that Luffy can't but in a general sense they're on the same level IQ wise.

My main reasoning in posting those moments was to refute your stance that Zoro doesn't fit the role as the RHM who isn't smart enough to create plans for Luffy and the crew. He has more canonical evidence of being the brains in their dynamic than Killer or Beckman. I'm aware that he's apart of the main cast so he has more opportunities to show off but that can't be ignored. And yes Nami is smarter, handles the crew as you said and in a trio setting she's definitely calling the shots but Zoro has more moments were he is planning I believe. I could be overlooking some Nami moments though.

Great post. The initial post with the other Captain - Vice Captain comparisons was very good as well but the part about Zoro is wrong.

Thanks. Zoro’s intelligence is criminally underrated and overlooked by the majority of the fandom so it’s good to let people know that he’s much more than just a strength oriented character

Strawhat Pirates are different:

As mentioned above the core of those three crew is are the two-man duos of the Captain & the smartass RHM. For the Strawhats it's not the same. The "core" of the crew for the Strawhats is a 3-man combo of Luffy - Zoro - Nami (I don't believe i need to go into details of how much Oda has emphasized this trio). The three being referred to as the "triggers" of One Piece.

This is essentially the same as Luffy's own father with Kuma & Ivankov. Which is a trio that served as the core of the Revolutionary Army.

Now within this trio Luffy-Zoro are closer much like Dragon-Kuma are closer. Which is why Zoro & Kuma even shared that moment in Thriller Bark. Where Dragon's "Zoro" testing out his son's "Zoro". And then proceeds to comment on the crew:

And UNLIKE the Roger Pirates/Kid Pirates/RHP. Dragon's main crew refers to Dragon as.... Dragon. Not as "captain" "commander" "Chief" "Boss". Simply Dragon. Whether it be Koala/Sabo/Ivankov. Exactly as Luffy being called "Luffy" be all of the main strawhats when it comes to informal convos. The Strawhat pirates are essentially if Dragon had decided to become a Pirate, rather than a revolutionary army.
What are you smoking, the revo trio is clearly supposed to parallel the monster trio

Kuma and Zoro fought each other in TB
Ivankov trained Sanji over the timeskip

Kid is a lot like Luffy. Unlike Law, who’s DF just grants him hax powers, Kid’s DF requires some creativity.

He makes structures out of metal paralleling Luffy and his gears.

Some people say this isn’t creative enough but imo that’s kinda retarded. His structures are built out of literal garbage and were able to cause trouble for BM.
