iirc in the ace novel it was implied that Rayleigh has never met Ace, so there's a chance that he didn't even know that ace was Roger's son

and shanks knew that ace was Roger's son but didn't do anything either

but if Garp himself didn't save ace, why would Rayleigh and shanks do

Shanks specifically went to whitebeard and told him to stop ace immediately. Then shanks and his crew arrived to marineford late after stopping kaido and ended the war. If ace was alive when shanks landed, shanks would have saved him. The coward sabo faked amnesia and the coward Rayleigh drowned himself in a bottle because he knew garp and sengoku would give PTSD of the old days.

Yeah there’s really no excuse for Rayleigh for not even attempting to save Ace, it’s flat out bad writing. Roger told his sworn enemy Garp about his son so there shouldn’t be any reason for his vice captain who he knew for decades not to know.

Oda also ruined WB lowkey for having family being the main theme for his character only for him to let his “brother” Oden rot without any vengeance against Kaido because of “casualties”. Marineford completely goes against that.
