As we all know according to the vivre card Mihawk is waiting for an individual that surpasses his former rival Shanks. Now Shanks has also been mentioned as a swordsman in-contention of being recognized as the WSS, in that little marine story from Dressrosa. He possesses a named sword with Gryphon, has top notch Haki, stands on par with the rest of the Emperors (personally think he might even be superior to 1 or 2, but diff discussion).

Zoro has throughout the series shown the want to fight swordsmen to test himself, whether they use tabletops on the side or whether they transform into giraffes, it doesn't matter to him, long as they're using the sword he wants to fight and beat them.

We know that Shanks & Luffy will meet at some point.
Is it possible that during that meeting Zoro challenges Shanks to a fight to test out his power to see how far away he is from Dracule?
Would Luffy allow it to happen?
Would Zoro force Luffy to let him fight Shanks?

Don't use Zorohate/Shanks wank/shankshate in your post please. This is about sheer story discussion, not who is how strong, but the character's intentions, wants, and the goals. Leave posts with details for your answer. :endthis:

No. We've been waiting since chapter 1 for Luffy and Shanks to meet up. It is, literally, the thing we have been waiting the longest to see in the series. The Shanks Luffy relationship is what started the entire series, Oda is not going to throw in a random dick measuring contest with Zoro in the middle of it.

Not to mention, when Luffy meets up with Shanks, chances are high that Zoro will be meeting Mihawk and Ussop Yassop at the same time.

It's also not particularly in character for Zoro to even challenge Shanks in the first place.

And the Luffy Zoro relationship has never been one of Luffy "allowing" Zoro to do anything, or Zoro "forcing" Luffy into things.

Will they fight? No.

Could they have a moment? Absolutely. Mihawk and Shanks are intrinsically linked. The two have had countless duels t'ill Shanks gave up his arm for Luffy. This changed Mihawk's outlook, becoming bored of the world, but growing curious of the boy whom Shanks sacrificed his potential for.

We've seen Mihawk's side of things concerning Shanks choice. His reason for training Zoro being a result of coming to understand Shanks' actions for acting out in sake of another.

Now Shanks clearly still has his duels with Mihawk in mind, given the first thing he asks Mihawk when he came to visit him the first time was whether he came to fight. And what sparked Shanks rivalry with Mihawk? We know Mihawk was already a renowned figure before the great pirate age, thus more renowned than Shanks who was just an apprentice onboard the Orojackson. It's more likely Shanks sought out the more notorious Mihawk. An underdog, if you will. However, at some point, he gave it up for something more important. Kinda sounds like Zoro, if we look at it like that.

Should Zoro and Shanks meet, Shanks' motivations for fighting Mihawk might be cleared up. Perhaps a similar sentiment may arise from Shanks that Mihawk felt for Luffy during Marineford. Mihawk realized Luffy was worth the bet Shanks made as he could change the world, while Shanks recognizes Zoro as the man who could finally best Mihawk. A task even he could not accomplish.

It will defo happen. mihawks rival shanks will test zoro the same way mihawk tested luffy. he will test to see if he’s worthy of challenging the man himself. If zoro can’t get past shanks theres no hope for him to beat mihawk who’s stronger.
I'm going with the possibility of a similar scenario to the ones you two mentioned as well. A small clash between the two, that showcases Roronoa's potential to Shanks, and then Shanks comments on him & Mihawk. Similar sentiment of acknowledgement that occured between Mihawk-Luffy would come between Zoro-Shanks, as you two pointed out.

Imagine Shanks saying something like, "Well well.. if it's you.. you might just be able to topple/surpass that Hawkeye."
Even without that, just having one of the top swordsmen of the world acknowledging your prowess before taking on Dracule (if he does) would be great before reaching that top level marker. It'd be a good "yyuuupp that boy Roronoa getting real close to the Hawk" moment.

Nope, Oda doesn't give a rat's ass about swordsmanpiece, Shanks' defining trait isn't being a swordsman, he's the man Roger passed his hat down to, who then passed it down to Luffy, Luffy's idol. Zoro's got nothing to do with Shanks. For Shanks' importance to this story, his fighting style is way back in the list of priorities.

His link to Luffy far outweighs any potential links to Zoro, to the point where Oda wouldn't dare take the shine away from the most built up meeting in One Piece.

This makes the most sense but Sanji won't challenge Benn and Luffy will never fight his own idol. The comparisons are correct still.
I dont see him fighting shanks either, but i am looking forward for the moment where Luffy needs to stand against Shanks, where he needs to put shanks under him.

Something like (here kicks my imagination) the crews meet in Elbaf, somewhere in a forest, or more like Usopp suddenly meets his father there and is confronting him in anger cause of all what happens before to his mum without his father being there, letting him alone, letting him be a lier. I can see usopp going at his father for that.

Shanks immediatly stops Usopp declares he had to deal with him if he wants to attack Yasopp. But then Luffy comes up and watch down at the scene:
"Step back Shanks, this is something personal, thats none of your business."

So Luffy straight going to confront shanks in the favor of his nakama, no hesitation, not disrespecting, but clearly showing which is way more important for luffy and that he dont fear to stand in front of his crew against anyone, no matter against whom.

Seriously what is this "blackbeard will kill shanks 100%" I've been waiting since chpater 1 for luffy and shanks's reunion, i just don't want the whole "blackbeard will kill shanks" theory to happen even if it makes sense

It can always happen after they meet, in fact knowing Oda that might be what just happens. Just like it did with Ace, Ace faced Blackbeard a good while after he met Luffy.
