The biggest Pirate Threat in the history of the pirate world is about to emerge soon, and the man who will be leading that threat is the one who declared himself as the strongest during the summit war of Marineford, Marshall D. Teach. Now the fandom has often questioned how will Blackbeard become the top dog that Luffy needs to take down, as currently going by their bounties Luffy is the bigger entity. So what will Blackbeard do to make himself the big dog on the seas? The answer to the question has become more clear as to what feast Blackbeard will be devouring to become the biggest pirate threat on the seas.
Prowess of the Blackbeard Pirates:
Many fans in my humble opinion have underrated the Blackbeard Pirates and in particular the Impel Down criminals. So before we get into the feast that Oda is preparing for Teach, let's take a look at the MONSTERS that are gathered under Marshall D. Teach.
His "first" members:
Van Augur - This man is set up to be the match up for Yassop, somebody's who's been highlighted now in the Red Movie to have tremendous CoO skills.
Doc Q - Is still a big mystery when it comes to his strength, while it remains unknown, nonetheless he possesses one of the most incredibly enduring bodies we've seen.
Laffitte - Serves as the right hand man to Teach as the Chief of Staff of Blackbeard Pirates.
Burgess - Decently strong, with potential to grow even stronger, as the youngest member of the Blackbeard Pirates.
^ All 4 could've gotten OP DFs to make them even more powerful. However, many have a misconception in calling these guys the "original" BP or something, not realizing that by this point Blackbeard had only been gathering his crew for few months at max. These guys were simply the first ones to join, however, the main dogs who Oda has hyped up constantly before they joined, after they joined, and now after Teach became a yonko.. are the next ones.
His Top Members:
During Impel Down arc, Oda goes out of his way to give hype to 4 of the individuals before they'd join Blackbeard:
- Shiryuu of the Rain: Along with Magellan made Impel Down into an impenetrable fortress.
- Catarina Devon, Vasco Shot, San Juan Wolf : 3 LEGENDARY Pirates who shook the world, who's crimes the World Government made sure never made public news. OBJECTIVELY This is bigger portrayal and hype than any portrayal/hype any individual YC has received so far within the manga (except for Ben Beckman):
Then during Marineford 5 individuals that Blackbeard recruited get hyped up by the marines again. Along with it being revealed that Teach became a Warlord for the sole purpose of recruiting them:
4 of them being revealed as the worst criminals, who's very existence had been erased by the World Government due to how barbaric their crimes were (only other person like that we know is Xebec) :
5 of them getting giant panels dedicated to each of them.
Implying Blackbeard recruited the Impel Down prisoners + Shiryuu on the basis that he'd be able to gather the gura gura from WB:
POST-TS, during the same chapter (957) that highlighted the might of the Red-haired pirates (which people are now seeing have multiple commanders who could be above the likes of Katakuri) along with a person who stands on the same level as the captain... In that same chapter, these 5 were highlighted for Blackbeard:
Outside of Ben Beckman not other YC touches their portrayal/hype.
Blackbeard Pirates & Rocks Pirates:
As many in the fandom have already accepted now Blackbeard is the dude who'll be surpassing Xebec (as the man even named his ship after Xebec's), somebody Sengoku considered as Roger's most formidable rival. The man who had an era dedicated to him before Roger came up. I don't think anybody is going to argue the fact that Blackbeard is/will be (if you don't think he's peaked now) above Xebec.
So how is gonna be surpassing him? Let's take a look:
When Sengoku describes the Rocks Pirates he says they were a collection of individuals who came together to make one big score and that they were a fierce bunch constantly killing one another within the group.
This is pretty much the same reason as why Impel Down prisoners who shook the world when they weren't in Impel Down, joined Blackbeard. Hence Shiryuu questioning whether they'd be disbanding if Teach failed in getting the Gura Gura. They've joined Blackbeard with a goal to aim at that Blackbeard told em about. KEEP IN MIND, all of them had more infamy than Blackbeard by a good margin when they joined him. This is what makes Blackbeard superior to Xebec, he's managed to keep these dangerous criminals from fighting against each other and established proper order within his squad. Something Xebec failed to do.
Sengoku described Xebec having opened hostilities directly against the World Government. This is also very much akin to Blackbeard openly declaring war on rest of the World.
Point being in order for Teach to surpass Xebec truly he needs a crew that's superior to Xebec's, meaning a crew that's superior to having non-prime WB/Shiki/BM/Kaido/Captain John/Wang Zhi/etc on the crew, aka a crew filled bunch of conquerors. But the question then becomes HOW does Blackbeard's crew surpass them?
FEAST FOR BLACKBEARD:
5 members of the Worst Generation were responsible for the fall of 2 emperors. And 3 of them being directly responsible for the defeat of those two emperors in fights. This allowed the three captains to attain a bounty higher than Blackbeard's by a good margin. So what can Blackbeard do to establish himself in the league as WB atleast or maybe even Roger as a pirate? Because if he takes down simply RHP he only establishes himself superior to Shanks, who was not viewed superior to BM & Kaido by the world. So that doesn't even establish Blackbeard being superior to Kaido as a pirate, let alone superior to the likes of Whitebeard.
The answer is quite simple, instead of taking down 1 Yonko, he takes down 2. The foreshadowing of this is established in the Oden flashback. Where we see Blackbeard standing a distance away from the other 2 WB youngins, while Buggy & Shanks standing together. Blackbeard inquires about both Buggy & Shanks, while Buggy then starts talking about Blackbeard with Shanks.... and two decades later all 3 are emperors:
What does taking down these two organizations mean?
In taking down the Cross Guild & Red Hair Pirates, the Blackbeard pirates would've take down:
Buggy - perceived by the world to be an entity who is akin to Shanks.
Dracule Mihawk - Shanks' rival who's on par with him (realistically stronger) in combat prowess
Shanks - an established Emperor
Ben Beckman - an entity that's considered akin to Shanks
Crocodile - perceived as a big powerhouse due to having been a Warlord once.
Red Hair pirates - For all we know there could be multiples above the likes of Katakuri, since the strongest subordinate is on the same level as the captain.
For the world of One Piece, this would be somethin unprecedented. Even though we'll know some of them were fraudulent, but for the world ... no sir Blackbeard would've done something no one in the history of One Piece world has done, effectively taken out 2 Yonko who have 2 top tier subordinates (Mihawk & Beckman), along with bunch of powerful YC 1-3 ranging commanders.
This is the feast that Oda is preparing for Marshall D. Teach. The feast that Blackbeard will consume to become the greatest threat in the history of piracy. The feast that would establish him as the greatest pirate since Gol D. Roger (since people would still view conquering the grandline as the superior feat, I'm assuming).
A new era of piracy started with the death of Edward Newgate, and now the arrival of the greatest pirate threat in history is upon us.
