Chapter 999 reconfirmed that Whitebeard pirates have been spreading false informations in order to keep their reputations up and to inflict fear on pirates and Navy to not mess with them.

Well, even BMP have spread lies about Kidd to cover up their failures.

From Ace Novel and in the Manga, We can see how WBP kept WB's health and powerlevel a secret by making up lies that he was still the WSM.

They also kept making it seem as if WB would still go at war to avenge his men if you touch one of them or touched his territories.
That was the Old WB who perhaps did that but as time flew by, he stopped being that great hero. Same thing with WBP not helping their Allies to fight back Weevil. Nah, they disbanded and didn't even give a damn about the 16 allied captains (despite some of them being original members of WB's crew)

It's not their fault tho,
they had to keep up these propaganda to protect their image when the reality was that:
WB didn't actually rule as WSM anymore for at least the last 6 years of his life, he wasn't the man who fights/accept challenges anymore. Backing down to fight Kaido etc...
He was only flexing on rookies like Ace.
WBP were on decline for the last 10 years, Marineford arc didn't only weaken them but exposed them and payback war was the end of it all. Weevil is just cleaning up the mess.

The only reason he went to Marineford was because he knew his time was over and can at least save/avenge one of his underling to atome his sins for letting Oden and Thatch die in vain without avenging them.

So yeah, Newgate stopped being A Great Pirate 10 years ago.
Navy and pirates kept buying his old image that WBP would still use to bestow fear.

I agree, I said everything.
When I heard that KAIDO would take advantage of the white beard situation, that he would go to MARINEFORD, I always knew that WB had done something for KAIDO to do that.
Just like Roger who heard about ODEN in the newspapers, KAIDO also knew (that ODEN was a member of the WB and Roger team). (Kaido explained in FLASH BACK that WB and Roger made ODEN soft).
Kaido was aware of all this, that by killing ODEN he would provoke WB and ROGER.
WB never sought revenge against KAIDO, and Kaido was angry when he learned he was going to kill himself instead of trying to kill him, which means that at this point in history WB was no longer the MAN that Kaido thought he was, the same thing with ODEN , who kaido claimed to think he was a madman who didn't care about losses.
Kaido said: "he did it right", WB did it right to die honorably, trying to save ACE in front of the world, in front of cameras and people, but make no mistake, he failed, just like ODEN, ACE died.
He defeated BB (who killed Thatch) but didn't kill him, he defeated akainu (who killed ACE), but was unable to kill him and never tried to kill Kaido who killed his brother ODEN.

Damn you just change my view on Whitebeard's character here :kata:In the last chapter, I judged him by the image I had of him not by what he actually did.
I admit I was wrong about him however I still consider Izo like a fraud though : he had no excuse not to push WB to hunt down Kaido while he was sailing outside Wano. Killing Kaido would not resurrect Oden but it would save his country and his people, so I'm really disappointed of Izo here.

In short, your post was really relevant and it opened my eyes on WB ... I guess you're not as cancerous as I thought :specialmeh:

About the propaganda obviously they will do that. Faking WB illness was essential for not every young upstarts to start messing with them their territories and still be feared like day one.
