This is a thread to talk about quirks and what will happen to them at the end of the story.
What we know about quirks :
The quirks first appeared in a "recent past" we don't know excatly when but given the picture of the baby and the timeline I think it was around 100/150 years ago maybe ?
The first quirk user was a newborn baby in China, and after that numerous people around the world began to manifest different super powers.
And it is unknown how this thing happened. Nobody knows why one day somebody managed to have a power. Some said it was a virus spread by mice.
Quirks are part of the DNA of people and are inherited genetically. But like Eri or Shiggy a person can have a totally different quirk compared to his parents. And two parents with quirk can have a quirkless child.
Now 80% of the people has a quirk.
So we know that Quirks are somewhat quite recent, that 100+ years ago people lived "like us" and without any quirks. But now quirks are spread and are in the DNA of people.
Quirks problems :
The first problem was the destructive nature of quirks : people abilities are too dangerous and can cause great destruction. But with time and a lot of struggle the world managed to handle quirks and laws forbid the quirk usage etc.
But some quirk are really powerful, and difficult to master especially at young age : like Shiggy or Eri for exemple. For a child to have that kind of quirk this is extremely dangerous. And except if he is trained or removed from his family at young age he will cause destruction for sure. And for those person the quirk world is quite harsh
But this is rare and for the biggest part the quirks are controled.
But the new big problem is quirk singularity : this is the danger that quirk becoming stronger and stronger with each generation
So the quirks are more and more difficult to control. And if this continue one day society won't be able to control this power creep.
So at one point the quirks will be a big problem for the world, not because people are villains etc but just because they are too dangerous in itself.
This is for now a theory done by Ujiko 70 years ago and no one really believed it. But we could see it with Bakugo, Shoto etc when they had to tame the kids : their powers were already really powerful even if they were just kids and this can mean that Ujiko were right about his theory.
Ujiko is a mad man but he is smart.
And today this theory is more believed than before even if it is not wide spread yet. As mentioned by Present Mic, in the current era, this theory is viewed as fringe thinking, and is followed by some cultists.
An other problem with quirks is technology : with the appearance of quirks the society didn't focus anymore on technology and the science and progress took a massive slow down. Hero techs is good and all but the rest of the society doesn't really enjoy an improvement in technology.
This can be explained by the different wars for quirks : super powered criminals, AFO takeover, AFO vs Destro, AFO vs society etc. And now that people have superpowers they are not really interested in science progress and may think that quirk is the answer to all problems.
So we can see that quirks can be a problem for the society and this status quo cannot live forever.
The last problem is discrimination : when 80% of the population has superpowers when you have not you sucks, and you are bullied etc. There is discrimination against people who don't have quirks.
Quirks future ?
What will happen next for quirks ?
I can totally see a world without quirks at EOS.
I have multiple reasons to believe in this theory :
1) first : Erasing quirks is a weapons now : we can see that people are really really interested in earsing others quirks, to be the only one to have one or to dominate or because they think quirks made things more difficult for them etc :
- the erasing quirks bullet : thanks to Eri quirks and technology, quirks can be erased now. This new weapon can erase a person's quirk. For now the effect are final. Maybe there will be a cure later (Eri's powers ?) or not it yet to be seen. So now we can have a lot of heroes or villains who will lose their quirks thanks to those bullets. And Shiggy has them now. Overhaul whole idea was to make the world be quirkless again.
- Eraserhead : everybody is interested by Aizawa's powers. Overhaul wanted it, Ujiko wanted it etc. Everybody want to put his hand on the erasing quik ability. So we can guess that this will continue in the future and maybe Aizawa will lose his powers or research about his powers will be done.
- AFO : AFO can steal quirks from someone (he can also give quirks). AFO can steal a lot of quirks and the person who is stolen becomes quirkless. Now that Shiggy has AFO I think he will steal a lot of quirks, so we will see a lot of person becoming quirless. Shiggy will maybe even steal Aizawa's quirk (that would be OP haha).
2) People can live without their quirks just fine :
During centuries and millennia people lived without quirks and the world was just fine.
Today the main law is that people are forbidden to use their quirks in public. And most of people except villains and heroes don't use their quirks often and have lives and jobs etc whcih don't really make use of their quirks. Even the police cannot use quirks.
And people can be heroes just fine without quirks : Mirio without his quirk is still a beast, Knuckleduster is a wild beast and doesn't have quirk anymore, Ragdoll (part of the pussycats heroes) has no quirk anymore and she is still a hero and help her team.
All of this shows that being a hero is not only having a huge quirk but your training and your will is more important.
And now some technology can help you just fine fighting villains or criminals. In MHA trained people can be hella fast strong and durable even quirkless.
So I can see a world where people doesn't have quirk anymore. And this world won't crumble at all.
3) Deku character :
One of the main problem about this theory is Deku :
Deku's dream is to be the number one hero and to be the next all might and to save people. So can he lose his quirk ? does it make sense for him character wise ?
But it can be a good way to show character development for him : I can see Deku a guy who always wanted a quirk, giving up his new borrowed quirk to save people. And in this new world without quirk Deku can still be a hero, with techs, skills etc.
I can see a situation where Shiggy is too powerful and the only way to stop him is to launch an erasing quirks bomb on earth, erasing all quirks.
What do you think about all of that ? About the quirk problems ? and the quirk end at EOS or later in the story ?
