General & Others Rank preskip arc

#1
How would you rank the One Piece arcs from before the timeskip, from Romance Dawn arc to Post-Marineford arc, from your least favorite arc to your favorite Preskip arc? What would be your arguments to explain your ranking and choices of best and least favorite arcs, and in-between?

#2
1. Marineford Saga (the 3 arcs in it)
2. Water7-Ennis Lobby
3. Alabasta Saga
4. East Blue collectively
5. Don't really care for Skypea/ the fox arc/thriller bark (easily the arcs im least likely to ever read out of OP as a whole, not even just pre-TS)

Pretty much this, but move Marineford lower
1) W7 & EL
2) Alabasta
3) EB
4) Marineford
5) The Rest

EB had the best focus on SHP

Alabasta was new and interesting, and Robin was legit the only SH I had not expected to join

W7 & EL had amazing Robin arc

Marineford unfortunately had only Luffy, but it was cool to see Impel Down AND revisit some known characters

Skypea was a bit long and boring to me, I just couldn't click with it. TB had its moments, but also had its stupidity at times, and I have a strong dislike to zombies and zombie themes.

Honestly I will need to reread arcs pre skypea. I vaguely remember them.

  1. Ennies lobby/Marineford
  2. Impel down arc
  3. Sabody arc
  4. Water 7 arc
  5. Skypea arc
  6. Amazon Lily arc
  7. Thriller bark arc
  8. Arlong arc
  9. Baratie arc
  10. Syrup village arc
  11. Loguetown arc

Not ranking alabasta arc for now. Have to reread it.

I recently saw a very convincing video on how Skypiea is a microcosm of the series in total, and if that's true it'll become much better.
I don't know if Skypeia is a microcosm of the manga, but it's definitively one of my favorite arcs in all of the manga, Enel was an amazing antagonist even if I found his subordinates more lackluster compared to Baroque Works, and the creativity and feeling of adventure were perhaps at their strongest during this arc.

1- Water Seven/Enies Lobby: Simply Peak Piece! The crew arguing between each other in a serious way for the first and only time, real consequences like the destruction of the Going Merry, the wonderful "I want to live" and declaration of war to the World Government scene. Definitely Peak Piece!

2-Jaya/Skypea: An arc that represent the "dreamer" spirit of One Piece. An original idea of a island in the sky,and a relatively realistic way to arrive there (not for magic or something, but taking the right wave etc.),a completely different population, with a different currency, and great action scenes with good coreography

3-Ace Rescue arc (from Sabaody to post-Marineford): An arc that sees Luffy as the only protagonist without his crew, but still a great arc. Real consequences (From Luffy having to be separate from his crew for a long time,to Ace's death),all the most powerful characters of the manga at the time present, and a lot of plot twists. I used to complain about Marineford, but its actually not so bad as a war. It aged well imho

4-Baroque Works Arc (from Lavoon to Alabasta): The first "save the princess, save the kingdom" arc. And the best one at doing this formula! Vivi is the best princess between the many princesses of the story, and the Alabasta population has a good reason to enter in a civil war, something pivotal like water! And Crocodile is a great villain

5-East Blue Arc: Arlong is a great villain, and the scene where Luffy puts the strawhat on Nami is surely iconic, but apart from Arlong Park which is a great arc,the other arcs of this group are not so good

6-Thriller Bark: I mean..its funny, and the Tim Burton style is cool, but Moria is not a great villain. The ending part with Kuma and Zoro though is surely great

7-Davy Back Fight: I mean, yeah, its funny, but come on! It deserves the last place anyway. Love Foxy,Polluce and the others, though

It's actually hard for me to think about rating Skypiea because I'm choked by nostalgia. I was content with going at the extremely slow pace of the original Viz Jump until I started seeing promotional images with the Skypiea style and just had to get there. Oda's art style was peaking by the end of Alabasta and the designs were so good, but then the story from Mock Town to the crash back down... Norland, Cricket, Wiper, etc are still favorites. Ener as a villain was my favorite kind of sequel in being bigger/more powerful, an odd duck (think Super Mario USA), and a good summation of the villain concept. I love how the priests immediately broke the amateur wrestling formula of fights even if people swear by it to this day. I love the sorely neglected friendship between Luffy and Nami getting a main event focus. And so on.

Arlong Park and Skypiea are my top two. Then Water 7. Alabasta proper suffers a bit in my mind, as I rushed through those shitty Chinese scans to get to Skypiea, where I caught up to the Japanese. #5 is... Davy Back, lol

I actually liked the Davy Back Fight arc. It was a nice breather after Alabasta and Skypeia, the concept of the Davy Back Fight and the legend behind it were nice, and the various games were fun, plus the arc's humor was nice. Foxy wasn't the best antagonist but he and his crew were quite entertaining and I liked the creativity he displayed, even if he was never going to be anything compared to Crocodile and Enel as a threat.

I find it to have breather arcs from time to time
