I think of all the people out there Ace is one of the most difficult to actually power scale or he is the lord of ties. In Alabasta he is shown to tie with Smoker (at that point in the story the readers would not know how strong Ace or Smoker might actually be), he just commented that their devil fruits cancel each other or some shit and then escaped etc. Then we learn that he and Jinbe fought for 5 days, again showing an equal power level. We see him having a high-extreme diff fight with BB but the last attack of Ace and BB is shown to be equal. He is also shown to have tied with Aokiji in a clash at Marineford but then loses to Akainu because of elemental inferiority. He also ties with Yamato. Now idk what is the chronological sequence of the fights but this is what seems to be most likely.

1. Ace fights Yamato (probably did before joining WBP about 4 years ago), Yamato would be 24 at that time and she probably has most of her powers.
2. Ace fights Jinbe (maybe we can swap this with 1 depending on the timeline, Ace joined WBP right after this I think). Jinbe most likely was also near or at his strongest.
3. Ace fights Somker (clash or whatever but Smoker is a captain). Ace is chasing after BB.
4. Ace fights BB (some back and forth, final attacks visually shown equal). This BB gave Shanks the scar (when did this happen).
5. Ace fights Aokiji (just a clash of elemental attacks).

So we have Ace who tied with Yamato, someone who is anywhere between Flying Six to YC1+ level. Then this same Ace ties with Jinbe who is at best a YC3. Then we have the clash with Smoker who is a captain and below Flying Six. Then we have BB who is at least YC level, maybe even higher since he managed to scar Shanks. Then we have an Admiral. So Ace can range from anywhere between Captain and Flying Six to YC1 level?

Ace vs. Aokiji was less of a clash because he melted away his Ice Pheasant. His devil fruit power was superior.
We didn't see how the fight against Blackbeard ended. Maybe both were defeated and Teach's crew just had to capture Ace.
He was still a rookie in his fight against Jimbei, and yet he was able to defeat him on neutral ground. Yes, he defeated him because Jimbei collapsed, but Ace still had enough strength to fight Whitebeard afterwards.
He fought an even fight with Yamato. Ace was only defeated by the strongest characters we know (Sakazuki, Whitebeard, Blackbeard). On Marineford, Ace was probably about as strong as Queen.

Yeah I think so too, if we had haki fleshed out a bit more earlier, I think he would be around YC1 level. Thanks for clearing the Ace vs Smoker part being a filler cause out of all it was the most outlandish to me. It is true that we never found out the actual result of the Ace vs BB battle, maybe BB's crew caught Ace after both fainted.
On the Sakazuki thing I think haki had already been introduced in the manga at that point just not as fleshed out as now. My friend who just recently read and watched OP can't understand why Ace didn't defend against Akainu's attack using haki if his element was weaker?

You are forgetting to scale people on their time.

Yamato wasn't stronger than King back then like she is now.

Jinbei got a lot stronger after fighting Ace.

Doesn't even have to say about Teach.

Aokiji was just elemental thing.

Akainu is a good scaler although Ace lost to DF natural power difference it shows how Ace had no haki with him despite observation and conqueror because of flashback.

So Ace is someone who gets negg by an Admiral. Aokiji had just a clash with him if he fought a bit longer he would have done the same as Akainu.

We saw by Marineford that people like Vista, Marco and Jozu are not getting meg by Admirals. So Ace was weaker than all of them.

We can also scale Teach. He is someone who gets negg by Magellan which I put near Admiral level so it fits since him and Ace are close.
We also have Teach tanking an attack from G2 Luffy and I would say he did it better than Lucci or Moriah.

Since I put haki users above others although is not 100% sure to be true I would scale Ace as Tobiroppo level weaker than Ulti and Page One but probably stronger than Black Maria.

The fight took place 2 years before the start of the series and as far as we know Jimbei didn't do anything special during that time. Even after the war, he just lived in seclusion in the Sea Forest, waiting for Luffy. However, Ace has definitely gotten stronger as he experienced some adventures and battles alongside the Whitebeard Pirates.

We saw by Marineford that people like Vista, Marco and Jozu are not getting meg by Admirals. So Ace was weaker than all of them.

Even together, Marco and Vista weren't able to scratch Akainu.

Jinbei went from someone who stalemated with Ace to someone who handled Akainu's magma punch(which Ace didn't). Jinbei for sure got stronger than Ace at Marineford(maybe Ace was weakened?) and possibly even stronger now after timeskip.

WTF he was just at Sea Forest waiting for Luffy? He joined Big Mom's Pirates, his crew was there at WCI and he had a good reputation there too.

Marco and Vista didn't a shit against Akainu but they didn't got negg like Ace. That was my point.

I honestly rank Dressrosa Sabo ~ Marineford Ace which if you trust the ace novels seems quite accurate. Once Sabo ate the mera he became stronger.

oh I forgot about that so ace should be yc1 but not necessarily stronger than marco but he had more potential, I can say he is around sanjis level stronger than all known yc2 but weaker than all yc1

Ace is like Yc1 or Yc2 at worst. After marineford, if he lived, it was already stated that he was gonna be the new leader and not Marco, everyone already agreeded with it. So he might have been stronger or equal than Marco.
