He still has his moments, but yeah he kinda embodies the shonen main character trope even more during Wano. So now I just enjoy him as a full embodiment character with his nuances. There’s so many full embodiment type of characters in this series anyway. OP is meant to be exaggerated so it works in this series imo

He's more a force of nature than a character. Freedom is something I value highly, but Luffy himself is not particularly relatable in how he deals with the world to achieve his goals. He is not an "ideal" I gravitate towards or strive to be. But he gets the job done as a shonen lead and does make you root for him, although I root for other characters in the story more than him. Overall 6/10 for me.

Luffy is a very basic standard Shounen protagonist, he has few good moments that show good character, but otherwise he is just one of the many Shounen protags, that are loosely like Goku, even if not battle obsessed

He works as a character for Oda to drive the story, since he has basics desires and goals, so Oda can go ham on world building and lore and backstory, which is what Oda excels

I mean, I was fine with Luffy before Nika Piece, he was a 7.7/10 protag for me, especially when his fruit was supposed to be lame (I love my determined MCs like Asta from BC). After Nika awakening he plummeted to 3/10. So it's about 5-6/10 for me for now.

What happened to Oda/Luffy happens all throughout fiction if you keep reading and writing long enough. The soft edges are rounded down and the nuances are overpowered.

Two exacerbating factors IMO are the massive plot (obviously) and Mayumi Tanaka. It's like the way he speaks and acts is built around her portrayal of him

Pre time skip he was 8 or 9 for me depending on the sample. Now he's like 6 or 7
