Remember in pre TS, characters had trouble hitting logia users like Smoker, Crocodile and Aokiji? Now that armanent haki is introduced, Oda can't spam invincible logia plot anymore, so he creates new "punching bag but actually not hurt" trope with the regen merchants that ignore both CoA and advanced CoA.
Of course it's a worse writing compared to logia case because it makes Marco's regen power less and less unique. Whole Gorosei, Gunko, and maybe also all other Holy Knights have it. Back then regeneration was a gimmick special to Marco. Back then, it makes sense that Marco can regen himself because phoenix in other stories does have regeneration ability. But now suddenly the likes of giant spider, giant boar, giant centaur all have regen too?
I think the solution for those regen merchants will only get revealed in Mariejois arc or Imu arc. There will be secret device located inside Pangea castle to give the Gorosei and Holy Knights unlimited regeneration, same way Fairy Tail Hades had that Devil Heart device in his ship that made him invincible. Oda likes to copy Fairy Tail's plot afterall. When that secret device is destroyed, the regen won't work anymore. It makes more sense than "knock out Sugar / Imu" scenario because logically the Gorosei and Holy Knights should be taken down first before Imu.
Even if Gunko and her gang are somehow defeated in Elbaf arc, the solution won't get spoiled now. We will just have a hint why their regen suddenly stops working, without knowing exactly why. And I think it has something to do with what Blackbeard and Lafitte are scheming.
They are talking about "supply"afterall, if Lafitte causing chaos, whole Mariejois might have power outage and causing Imu's secret device stopped functioning for a while, and that's when the Elbaf Holy Knights will be defeated.
