Powers & Abilities Remember when Oda hyped up the SMILEs

I agree. Oda was the one who made CC hype up both SMILE users and the Beast Pirates in general, and yet now they're being enslaved by Tama in some fucked up and stupid form of foreshadowed poetic justice/narrative karma, since they did indeed enslave the citizens of Wano and deserve a kind of comeuppance.
Problem is, why bother hype to be a threat to anyone that isn't Luffy or Zoro when the result is lame shit like this... It is possible to have fodder that are actually competent, not strong since I don't care about strength, just competent at their jobs.
It really makes no sense to hype up... a joke, especially when that joke just isn't funny and was initially something that was meant to be taken seriously.

I guess the main problem here with the smiles is... they may are strong, but on "our" side, or the side of the main chars here, we have no real fodder anymore. So the crew must be pretty strong, the crews around the supernovae also etc.. Surely all of them can be at a different power level, but after all, they arent fodder anymore. So if you would use the smiles against normal marines or normal pirates, they will most likely have a huge advantage cause of their powers. But these "normals" arent on the main cast side anymore, thats why the Smile-User cant really shine their way. Maybe Oda should have used some panels where the smiles crush normals anywhere.
They are strong but you can't expect them to be stronger, they are 500 after all. They can't be VA lvl, even weaker ones such as the likes of Maynard, Navy does not have that many, probably not even 100 VAs.
Some of them can hold Franky Shogun (6 I think), and those were the normal gifters, not headliners. That's already impressive.

Most of the Headliners and Elite Squads look fine, They aren't really that Goofy by One Piece Standards (like seriously did people forget about Satori and Wanze?)
Even Dobon kinda makes sense as Hippo skins are durable as fuck which is probably why Luffy and Kidd allowed themselves to be Eaten by him, maybe Oda Should have had Luffy try to punch his Hippo head only to fail to hurt it first
