Over a year ago I posted the theory that Imu was inspired by the demon Shuimu from Chinese folklore:
https://worstgen.alwaysdata.net/forum/threads/imu’s-origin.40516/
It’s implied this chapter that Imu flooded the old world at the start of the void century, creating a stronger connection with Shuimu whose main ability is to summon floods. Also since posting the theory we have learned that Topman is Fengxi another Chinese demon associated with rains and flooding. Since Topman is probably Imu’s second in command this adds another hint Imu would also have a Chinese origin.
We have also learned that Gorosei’s true forms are that of demons. Shuimu’s true form is said to be that of a snake or dragon demon. Imu also having a true demon form has now been hinted at by his encounter with Sabo and a dragon/snake would explain the name celestial dragon.
With oda drawing so many connects to Shuimu I wonder if the other parts of the legend will become true. Shuimu being defeated by swallowing magical noodles by the Monkey King and a female goddess. This could end up being Luffy tricking Imu into eating him and winning by disrupting Imu from the inside with help from the many female princesses with special powers he’s saved along the story.
Shuimu also had a sacred treasure, the water repelling pearl, that was stolen. Could Joy Boy have stolen this pearl and hidden it as the One Piece as a means to stop the flood?
Wanted to bump this because the magic noodles could make even more sense now if Oda replaces them with a rope after 1122
