Theory Roger was a fraud, he never found One Piece. Imu is actually the one who has it.

In the Gaimon story, Gaimon spends his entire life attempting to get a treasure chest at the top of a mountain which was actually empty. When Luffy reaches the mountain and finds that the treasure is empty, he pretends that the treasure is real and pretends to keep it to himself, so not to ruin the spirit of Gaimon. Gaimon however saw through Luffy’s facade.

This is the same thing Roger did. He never found One Piece. Rather, one piece had already been claimed by Imu. Roger just pretended that he found it in order to create the great pirate era and inspire his successor.

I think this makes sense for a lot of reasons.
  1. It allows Luffy to surpass Roger. If Roger already found One Piece, then it undermines Luffy becoming PK. Luffy surpassing Roger only works if Roger was a fraud. The manga is building him up to be one. Why do you think he never shared the true history of the world? He probably didn’t even figure out the full history, only bits and pieces of it. Rayleigh’s statement in sabaody hints to this. He says the SHs might come to a different conclusion.
  2. It allows Oda to keep the central mystery of the story alive till the very end. We know OP doesn’t end when Luffy reaches Laugh Tale because there is still the final war. Do you really think Oda will reveal what the main mystery of the story is before it’s even reached the climax? No. Oda will blue ball us on One Piece till the very end.

If fate kept the Human-Human Fruit Model: Sun God Nika out of Imu's hands, then it is also keeping the One Piece out of Imu's hands.

The fact he has Uranus may mean that he didn't discover it, but instead stole it from someone. If it was hidden, then fate would have kept it that way, so instead I think it was already discovered when he stole it from whoever had it before him.
