A good manga would be at least somewhat understandable even to people who haven't read much of it.
Sure. To know if the manga is good or not you'd first have to read it before talking about it:kobeha:

You read One Piece and know it left and right for better or worse.

You didn't read Kingdom and don't know the setup, what led to the meeting, and what type of figures those guys are in this world.

Makes sense to compare the two with such knowledge:arnoling:

Not my fault. Who's the one coming to an OP forum to talk about Kingdom?

I don't need to know it all. They're literally spoonfeeding the names of the characters to the readers as if the readers don't know their fucking names lol.
It is a diplomatic setting where they each state each other's titles in the first time they have met. This would be expected in such a setting.

You are acting like there is a literal name box that has popped up for the third time in an arc. Lol.

@Elder Lee Hung Kingdom dialogue is indeed top notch. It is a series where some of my favourite moments are pure dialogue and I am as hyped for chapters of talking as I am chapters of fighting. Lol.

I will say for Kaido and Luffy that comparing them to Riboku and Ryofui is a bit unfair since the latter two are a different kind of character altogether. They are intellectual, learned individuals that thrive in matters of deception and intrigue while Kaido and Luffy are meant to be far more straightforward and blunt characters.

Straightforward and blunt characters can still have depth and be observational however. So to compare like-to-like and still use Kingdom as an example then the Kingdom character that probably most resembles Kaido would be Gaimou.

Gaimou 100% blows Kaido out of the water even with the limited screen time he has had. Lol.
https://worstgen.alwaysdata.net/forum/threads/is-gaimou-correct.39860/

Which is funny cause Gaimou was a character with zero build up. The bloke just appeared and started ploughing through shit like a sentient wrecking ball. :yearight:

Compare that to Kaido having a decade of build up in advance just to be a character so poorly received that even the casuals in a Popularity Poll vote Bepo the feckin Bear over Kaido in the middle of his own damn arc is just extra LEL. :milaugh:

I get a little triggered seeing Kingdom and Shit piece panels in the same post ngl.
:kriwhat:

Great analysis of their conversation. Ryofui's on panel presence was unmatched for a non-general. To be in a room with Moubu and SHK but still being portrayed as the most dominant and threatening is an insane feat.

I have to say, this is a very unfair comparison.

Kingdom is one of those mangas that can convey politics and politicians of the story in a realistic and intellectual way. The number of manga capable of doing that is very small. This comparison is unfair, as I do not think any manga can portray politics in the way of Kingdom. In my opinion, its even better than the warfare parts of the manga on average

I don't expect Oda to give dialogue as deep as Kingdom's, all I want is good dialogue and cutting out unnecessary fodder-reaction panels.

There are only two points which I will contest in this post:
Riboku, at the time this scene takes place, is considered the strongest General in all China, because he just defeated and killed the previous strongest General in all China.
Riboku is the greatest general in all of China

I think its bit of stretch because Kingdom is more centered around real life characters and its centered around Qin regime.

Politics and war is centeral theme of kingdom and One piece is centered towards freedom and ambition of luffy.

One piece definately has backdrop where oda fails to give end narrative but as whole his storybuilding is brilliant last few chapters are absolute masterpiece i can totally forgive wano arc.

Kingdom is brilliant as well but lets face it it can get repeatative at times riboku is literally shown as god level startegist and Shin also gets plot shield .

Both are not perfect.

One piece is for kids , oda will never make the manga serious and dialogue centeric. I wont be surprised Imu and gorosei have ridiculous design .

Kingdom is for adults comparing theme i think its unfair to compare tbh. Oda can write serious manga considering he was assistant working for kenshin manga.

Look at Shin’s reaction here.

What the heck is this ridiculous conversation?

You see, this level of verbal repertoire only works if you are dealing with extremely intelligent characters, which both Riboku and Ryofui are. Riboku is the greatest general in all of China, and Ryofui is at least one of the greatest politicians in China. These two can play this verbal sparring match because these are two hyper intelligent characters. You don’t usually see dialogue of this level between characters who aren’t highly intelligent or highly educated.
You wrote a whole essay just to prove that this is a completely asinine and pointless compatison half way through. Two completely different contexts with two completely different characters. But I get it, you just wanted to shill for Kingdom but if thats the case why didnt you use the best line in the series:SmugRain:
