2) They transformed and that attack didnt kill them; hence Sabo commented that he wanted to take them out in one attack
3) Sabo saw them and ran away

After the recent chapter, I think it’s pretty clear Sabo only got away with it because Pangaea castle is too small for the Gorosei to go all out as they didn’t want to risk getting public attention outside the Empty Throne and damage the place.

My guess is that Imu gave Gorosei all this crazy power that is not even called devil fruit but it works as devil fruit. And immortality is also belong to Imu. So untill Imu is alive his Shadows(Gorosei) will be alive too.

So Gorosei can take this shadow form in small shapes, that is why Gorosei was nerfed when they appeared near Sabo. Gorosei wasn't able to take real form(or you can call it end forms) case of size. Also this in some sort of way works like Moria Fruit who was able to give shadows of people's with their power to zombies. And Imu probably have this shadow, Void power.

1. Why did they transform then?
2. Pangaea is fucking HUGE. It's as big as a city.
3. Leaving the room doesn't lead you outside.
4. Sabo managed to run away from them while carrying old man
