Sanji is a piece of shit, and Oda will make female characters lose their free agency (Viola, Pudding) just to bail him out on situations caused by his own stupidity, under the basis of his weak moral code, and I ain’t even talking about him being a pervert, his own ‘moral code’ is some shit Zeff said back when he was a child, and he took it to extreme levels.
Also, he said he wanted to stay with Pudding (16, but whatever, Japan is weird) then shortly after go fucks around in a brothel, and now there is this other courtesan with a mouse I forgot the name, ok fine, guess he’s got Zeff not telling him about loyalty as an “excuse”.
Sanji’s role in the story is not to develop, he’s not here to grow up, to get his shit together, to actually act as a reliable companion to his friends, to restore the name of his family after Judge’s misguided attempts, he’s here to be a loser, a virgin, the lowest type of gag possible, to have some female characters “fall in love” with him, because he’s just taking a good beating from them, he’s there so that he can fail against women’s opponents, so that a character like Robin can thank him, OwO thank you wings-kun, due to you being a worthless clown Oda is forced to have me fight and not being a background character like the past 10 years.
He’ll still get his moments, and Oda will gift him enough power ups to make him relevant against any future opponent he’ll face, since there are a lot of people that as kids saw him acting “smart” (read: basic common sense, that when compared to Luffy makes him look like a genius), the so-called “Mr Prince” persona fans of him are still holding on, so he’s a very popular character, and if there’s anything Wano tells you, is that popularity> plot and established strengths consistencies.
I made my peace with Sanji, it disgusts me everytime I see him on panel, and I ain’t even a Zorofan (though, I’d argue he’s the less obnoxious of the Monster trio), just sad at the direction this character took, and it’s never enough from Oda to make him more disgusting.
Also, fucking piece of shit learned to smoke just to be “cool”, as someone that used to smoke, and quit , I can tell you how hard it is to stop, and how it fucks up your breathing in the long run. So of course, Sanji in Punk Hazard smokes in Nami’s body, so much for him caring about the well-being of the women.
And how could I forget, about the nosebleed being treated as a serious plot point…
