What is a buccaneer? They are said to have giant blood, but is that really all they are? Collon is a giant/human hybrid, but is not said to be a buccaneer.
Kaido and the other Onis seem to have ancient giant blood, but again, no evidence they are buccaneers.

I think it’s very likely that Sanji is a buccaneer or something close. He is an experiment of science gone wrong. Judge wanted him to be an emotionless slave, but Sora took pills to give him emotion, the effect was Sanji’s odd powers.
The buccaneers probably have a very similar backstory. I think it’s likely that they originated as a hybrid between a genetically modified slave race and humans. The slave race, possibly created by Imu or the ancient kingdom, was engineered to have superhuman strength and durability, but also be obedient. Possibly even emotionless like Germa.
But through some event, maybe a science mishap, effects of a DF, or simply through marriage with humans, these people gained access to the power of love. Allowing them to rebel against their creators.
Ultimately I think the power of love is an extremely dangerous ability. It allowed Kuma to surpass his own death to save his daughter. There is a reason the WG tried to suppress this ability. We will see why when Sanji fully masters it.
