Character Discussion Sanji's BB opponent is actually Vasco Shot

#1
I got challenged into making a post that both wank and tr4sh on Sanji, so here we go.

After methodical elimination using facts that did actually happen in the manga, I can conclude that the highest probability of Sanji's BB opponent is Vasco Shot.

Of course, Oda can choose anyone, that's his privilege. What I'm presenting is just a valid option backed by panel evidences.

1. Sanji's Traits
2. Sanji's Previous Opponents
3. Titanic Captains Eligibility
4. Elimination Criteria
5. Verdict

Once again, I need to emphasize, the final result of this post is valid. You can disagree, but you can't dismiss this possibility.

A. Who is Sanji?

These are facts: Sanji is a Cook originated from North Blue royal family Germa. He is a pervert who has history of not able to hit women, however he once married to Pudding. He is a martial artist who specializes in CoO and use fire-imbued leg-based moves. His abilities is themed around stealth, flight, invisibility, speed, and science.

B. Sanji's old enemies

Most of Sanji's major enemies have similar or opposite traits as him, from Gin (armor & fire theme), Mr. 2 (leg style), Wanze (cook & fire theme), Absalom & Queen (pervert & invisibility), Doffy (royal), Vergo (martial artist), all the way to Queen.
Minor and major clashes are included as long as the enemy isn't a random fodder. So we will base and expand from them.

C. Which TC will fight Sanji?

Choosing a TC opponent isn't random. They must have one or more of these:

a. have precedent before
b. same or opposite characteristics
c. related to main theme/role/abilities
d. narrative connection

Aokiji will be treated as 10th TC.

1. Shiryuu : he got Sanji's dream fruit and have part of his skillset, invisibility
2. Burgess : both are unarmed martial artist
3. Lafitte : both have the flight & stealth theme
4. Doc Q : he uses food as weapons & can fly.
5. Van Augur : took Pudding, Warp counter is speed/CoO.
6. Pizarro : North Blue & royalty background.
7. Devon : hitting woman theme, shapeshifter.
8. Aokiji : ice fire theme & took Pudding.
9. Vasco Shot : both are pervert.
10. San Juan Wolf : giant opponent.

For example, with criteria above:
- Shiryu have precedent before (Absalom, Queen), related to abilities (Invisibility), and narrative connection (Invis Fruit).
- Whereas San Juan Wolf is only eligible because there's a precedent before (Wadatsumi).

D. Elimination

There are many ways to eliminate. People often cherrypick and guide you into a certain narrative, but fear not, I won't. I will use Oda's own way of doing things, something he really done before.

First, parallel between PreTS & PostTS. As we know there are a lot of postTS stuff eeriely similar to preTS, such as arc format or scenarios. In this post context, "repeated" enemy is eliminated:

1. Shiryu is eliminated because of invisibility theme. In preTS Sanji fought Absalom, postTS Sanji fought Queen.
2. Burgess is eliminated because of martial artist status. In preTS Sanji fought Mr. 2, postTS Sanji fought Vergo.
3. Devon is eliminated due to female status. In preTS Sanji fought Kalifa, postTS Sanji fought Black Maria.
4. San Juan Wolf is eliminated due to Giant status. In preTS Sanji fought Oars, postTS Sanji fought Wadatsumi.
5. Pizarro is eliminated due to North Blue reasons. In preTS Sanji fought Jabra, postTS Sanji fought Doffy.

Secondly, if both preTS and postTS Sanji never shown to fight a certain type/class of character, then he won't fight the TC equivalent. Again, this is Oda's way of doing things, I don't invent this out of nowhere.

6. Lafitte is eliminated because both preTS postTS Sanji never fought a Stealth and Flying type opponent.
7. Van Augur is eliminated because both preTS and postTS Sanji never fought a Sniper.

Doc Q, although Sanji never fought Doctors both preTS and postTS, he did fight Wanze who uses food as weapons. Doc Q can be postTS equivalent.
Aokiji, Sanji clashed with Admiral preTS, he can repeat postTS.
Vasco Shot, Sanji fought a rapist before, Absalom. Vasco can be postTS equivalent.
So these three aren't eliminated yet.

Third, we have three left (no pun intended).
It is actually safe to eliminate Aokiji despite the very strong Ice Fire battle theme and Pudding reasons.
First, Aokiji might not fight SH.
Secondly, Sanji can't defeat him, because even Zoro's battle is Mihawk, Sanji can't defeat similar strength opponent at the same time.

We can also eliminate Doc Q despite the very strong "using food as weapon" theme and Wanze's postTS equivalent, because Oda gave him Sick Sick fruit. That's like Chopper's entire persona, not mention both are Doctors. Ain't no way Oda cucking Chopper of something related to his dream.

E. Verdict

It might not happen, but saying Vasco Shot being Sanji's BB opponent is valid. Both are pervert, lecherous, and have a bad habit unsuitable for shounen: drinking and smoking. Bonus similarity, both once got turned into stone by Boa.

Vasco shot has a cool design.

He is not.
Your post crumbled already:kayneshrug:

2. Burgess is eliminated because of martial artist status. In preTS Sanji fought Mr. 2, postTS Sanji fought Vergo.
5. Pizarro is eliminated due to North Blue reasons. In preTS Sanji fought Jabra, postTS Sanji fought Doffy.
Not "official" duels.
Crumbled x2

6. Lafitte is eliminated because both preTS postTS Sanji never fought a Stealth and Flying type opponent.
Stealth Laffite = Headcanon
Flying type = Jabura can "fly".
Crumbled x3

Secondly, Sanji can't defeat him, because even Zoro's battle is Mihawk, Sanji can't defeat similar strength opponent at the same time.
Literally what happens in every arc with both having an opponent lmao.
Crumbled x4

Verdict
Try again.

My smoking gun argument with the BB matchups is that Doc Q's powers cement the idea that the BB captains are meant to be the thematic foils to each individual Strawhat

Chopper's dream is to become a doctor who can cure any disease. Doc Q on the other hand is able to weaponize any possible disease

Laffitte was a sheriff who was exiled for his cruelty. Nami is a thief who was victimized by corrupt authority

San Juan Wolff is known as the mighty battleship and represents the raw power of nature. Franky is the crew's shipwright and represents the triumph of science and engineering.

I feel like a lot of people are looking at it through the context of "This character's powers would be a good matchup for this other character's powers" instead of "What do these characters have in common?" Or convesely "How are these characters different?" Cause imo the latter definitely seems to be the angle that Oda's going at

This is also why I think Vivi will be the one to fight Pizarro. She's a benevolent queen while he was an evil king

If corrupt authority is Namis story; doesn’t the corrupt king make a better opponent?

I’m with you in that the fights are going to be thematic and narrative based not power based. And Lafitte and Sanji are likely to have a much better story. You’re right, Lafittes a sheriff known for Police Brutality against prisoners, and it’s Pudding, a woman heavily connected to Sanji who’s in the BB Pirates prison.

I mean Nami was victimized by lower-level authority like corrupt Marine captains, so I just think Laffitte would be a better fit based on that
Not really sure on Sanji's opponent though cause we don't really know that much about most of the Titanic Captains right now. I expect his matchup to be a character who contrasts his chivalry cause that's why Pudding fell for him

Honestly once pudding got captured it cemeteries Lafitte vs Sanji which already seemed the most likely. But now that there’s someone who will show Lafittes brutality that’s connected to Sanji it’s just happening.

Nami will likely fight the woman of the crew like always.
