Blackbeard wants to become king. He has two things the WG needs: Garp and Caribou. Garp, even though he is a D and old, gives the navy great symbolic strength. Caribou, with his ability to store unlimited food inside of himself, could be used to solve the food shortage in the Holy Land. One of the two could have been enough to secure Teach a crown, both gurantee it.
When Shamrock was told about having to return to Maryjoa, the food problem was also mentioned. Lafitte is close. Last time, he went there to offer Blackbeard as Crocodile's successor. This time, he will ask them to make Blackbeard king. Shamrock will accompany Lafitte back to Pirate Island, to take Garp and Caribou, and to proclaim Blackbeard king of Pirate Island. He will also demand the Heavenly Tribute, with Pirate Island becoming government affiliated.
It is still an open question whether Shanks or Shamrock was the one that met the Five Elders during the Revery. Maybe this meeting between Shamrock and Blackbeard is drawn ambigiously aswell, so that some assume the time for Shanks vs Blackbeard has finally come.
