New update as to how they might parallel each other even more
Basically shanks has achieved 3 of the rarest abilities through advanced forms of haki vs Blackbeard is obtaining those 3 rare abilities through extremely rare fruits
Blackbeard isn’t just trying to randomly eat a strong fruit from each class but it’s more thought out than that. Blackbeard is eating fruits that mimic advanced forms of haki
With shanks being capable of achieving each of these abilities naturally through his haki
It’d be neat if shanks achieved each advanced level of haki the same way as luffy going observation, armament, then conquerors. With Blackbeard going doing the opposite and focusing on getting the most vital ability first with the darkness fruit

- Both being able to cancel out devil fruit
- Quake fruit = penetration armament
- Both bypassing durability
- 3rd fruit = future observation
- Both letting the user see into the future

I think the Roger Xebec comparison fits way way better. Shanks can be considered the Roger of the mid gen, that is what Oda intends imo. But BB is the one who inherited Xebec will: he is a bastard, just like Xebec, with a crew of psychopaths, just like Xebec, his ship is named after Xebec. While he is nothing like WB thematically.
Shanks might have some ties to xebec as well especially if they’re related
- Whitebeard = Blackbeard
- Teach was a pirate apprentice under whitebeard
- Both used the quake fruit
- He structures his crew in the same way as whitebeard
- He’s shanks’s aka mid gen Roger’s main rival
- Both named after the real life Blackbeard
- Blackbeard once he gains is third fruit will likely be considered the worlds strongest man just like whitebeard
Even if Shanks is related it doesn't mean much, more likely Shanks is related to the Figarland guy but from a glance you can say he and Shanks are opposites.
BB was an apprentice under WB but he betrayed completely WB and his principles. WB just wanted to have a family, an humble dream which is opposite to BB, he didn't give a damn about the OP and power in general (opposite to BB, Kaido, BM) while BB did what WB despised the most aka kill a member of his family, a brother he fought with for decades and, again, that was in order to gain power.
Shanks and him are rivals but more than that they hate eachother with a passion. You will never see BB and Shanks sit together with a cup of sake in their hands.
The name similarities are most likely a coincidence.
Imo when BB get the 3rd fruit and awakens the yami he will be known either as the moon god or, if getting that coincides with something else, the actual king of the world. These of course are speculations but in the end have the same weights than yours, this point is up in the air.

Blackbeard does have to be an exact copy of whitebeard for them to have tons of similarities between them
His connection to rocks doesn’t erase his connection to whitebeard. A character can parallel more than 1 character in different ways
