I think Shanks character is basically the ultimate sample of how an hype tool character should be.
Because even if he’s a hype tool, he’s strong as hell.
-His sword skills get used to hype Mihawk
-His Haki gets used to hype Joy Boy (it’s not the other way around, if you look closely)
-His existence itself serves the purpose to launch Teach as the final villain, there are just way too many hints in that regard. It’s a generation beef, one that spanned over multiple decades, since when they were kids
He was never designed to be the strongest, but he’s among the mightiest regardless
