In order to hype up King, Oda had him defeat Marco, who was previously seen as one of the strongest YC1s.

Similarly, Oda needs to give Shiryu a W to make him stand out from King, Marco, and the other YC1s. At this point his hype is no greater than Lucci’s tbh.

I think Bogard could be a good candidate for a hype tool.

Bogard has always been kept in the shadows, but given how Garp was one of the strongest marines of all time, Bogard could realistically be a low top tier. Or at least he was in his prime.

Shiryu killing someone like that would basically scale him to admiral level, which would adequately hype him to be Zoro’s next big fight.

It would also make a lot of sense for Bogard to fight some BBP to save Garp. In hachinosu he was on the ship, likely defending the civilians. But next time, he will probably go on the offensive.

Shiryu's hype was nearly oneshotting Garp with nothing but basic invisibility and haki. The fact that Garp hit back doesn't hurt Shiryu in any way, replace Garp with anyone else and they would never see the janitor coming.

All it would take is a cross guild bounty poster and a proper introduction box.

There’s honestly no reason for him to be a fodder. He fought alongside Garp countless times.

Say we say that Bogard ~ EoS Tashigi. Tashigi was at worst comparable to Nami in PH. Nami is currently veteran level. Meaning after the fight with the BBP and then the holy knights, she could easily by on par with the YCs.

At worst, Bogard should be YC 1-3 level.
