Yeah. There haven't been any promising shounen.
I feel they just need to use a simple plot but consistently deliver. No need to try something completely new and experimental. Such things they can only do if that's the purpose and they don't care about it's future.
Well, I read D,GrayMan and it was always promising, like HxH, but also have those crazy break periods like HxH. But overall shonen right now in general became milking money product, not the real story.

No, just not cynical.

Do you really that an author can spent 10 years of their life on a story just for money ?
Yes, because it's became profiteble

Yes, because it's became profiteble
That's might be how someone on the production works (not really) and maybe even someone who already finished his story.

But that's not how an author who still have a story to tell and who put decade or sometimes more into it.. works.

The point i think its the fact that the most succesful shonen has to be "milked" by Shueisha and other editors,so they must have "open" endings. Lets face it: MHA will probably get a spinoff in 1 year or 2,so it could not have a definitive ending. Same for Naruto,it would have been more epic if Sasuke died or something similar, but then he could not be used in Boruto etc.
About One Piece,i think the ending will be controversial because whatever the answers to the mysteries will be,there will always be someone who will find the answers "lame" or "predicatble" after all these years.

There is no open ending in MHA, the character journey of the Midoriya is over. Now, if something new happen, it will be a different story.

There are no such things as open endings in the big shonens (at least not in my knowledge). The stories were finished clearly and plainly.

Boruto is not Naruto, its a new story and if there is to be a spin off or sequel to My hero, it will be a new story as well.

This is what a real open ending is :

Shonen overall, with some exceptions, became a total failure as genre.
The reason why I'm saying this is because another manga just ended, and the ending was just bad. I'm talking about MHA with it's awful ending, where MC stayed as side kick, and Urahara didn't became anything special too. This is another shonen failure, which became right now rather a rule, that just saying no matter what story is about it's ending will be dumb. Why I'm calling this as new rule? Well, we can count all long series that got bad ending: Fairy Tail, Reborn, Naruto, Bleach, MHA, Promised Neverland, Seven Deadly Sins and AOT.

Ofcourse there was few shonens that have decent ending, but they usually was w ritten by female mangaka, such as: Fullmetal alchemist, Pandora Hearts.
Also there was some exceptions, such as Kimetsu no Yaiba, Soul Eater, Fire Force, YuYuhakusho and Rave Master, but it didn't change the fact that shonens usually fails to deliver decent ending.

Also there are few shonens that are still ongoing, such as Black Clover and One Piece, but BC almost granted will fail expectations, while One Piece is failure already because it takes more then 1000 chapters and still is far away from ending.
Reborn didn't really end poorly

But you're right,
Most shonen have bad or awful ending

For open ending i mean an ending which open possibiliy for a sequel. I even made the Sasuke example for Naruto but you did conveniently cut it from the comment

Was the ending bad OR was the ending NOT like you expected it to be ?

Looking at your post. I would put my money on the later.
Naruto was fire 🔥 from beginning to end and never got as bad as Wano in Act 2
