One thing I find cool about Smoker. He wasn’t just a pure DF fighter, like Kid and Law mostly are.
Most of Smoker’s move set is heavily focused on his haki. He uses his DF like Luffy, to increase the strength of his haki attacks.
Hence I think Smoker’s power up will be to attain the fusion haki that G4 Luffy had, where he combined rubber with CoA.
Similarly, Smoker will combine smoke with CoA. This means that rather than having to keep his fist in human form if he wants to throw a haki punch, Smoker can apply haki to a smoke punch.
This would allow Smoker to fully utilize his smoke body. He could become larger and throw giant haki punches or create constructs out of smoke and solidify them with haki.
Overall I feel like this is a very likely power up for Smoker to get, and will surely boost him to YC1 level.
