Future Events So,did Oda legit thrown away the whole Luffy/Big Mom stuff which were mentioned several times?

Oda never intended BM to be the main antagonist of her own arc, like kaido. If he did, what arc would that have been? Elbaf, the most important arc in one piece? The location of the 4th poneglyph? You really thought Oda saved big mom for that?

Kaido as antagonist of wano had consistent build up since punk hazard. Big Mom as main antagonist never had any build up. People just connected elbaf to big mom because it was in her flashback, but there was never any logical reason for big mom to be the main antagonist of such an arc, when every giant hates her. Luffy frees islands from their oppressors, BM isn't oppressing elbaf.

Luffy returning to WCI was also dumb, because Luffy already stole BM's road poneglyph. Why on earth would Oda waste time in this 1000+ manga for Luffy to return to WCI of all places, just to fight BM? That too after kaido.

People need to stop believing that just because a character says something, that that is actually the words of Oda. Of course Luffy would say he would beat big mom in the future, because he didn't anticipate BM coming to wano and Kid/Law fighting her. When BM did come to wano, Luffy literally stated twice
"the purpose of this war is to defeat Kaido, BM, and Orochi".

This is why ever since reverie when BM said she's coming to wano, I was on board with Kid and Law defeating her. This was always the best option, its just that the execution was poor. I made a dozen threads about this but tards always found some reason to justify Oda needing to waste another 100 chapters on big mom.

"Man I can't wait until I finish the Kaido arc so I can follow up with Luffy going through his promise to beat Big Mom later, any suggestions Editor-san?"

"That's great and all Oda-sensei, but how long will that take?"

"Let's see... Wano so far is easily surpassing 100+ chapters and Big Mom is just as strong as Kaido so-"

"Hmm, so... you plan to do ANOTHER 100+ chapters for her then?"

"Uh... shit, actually... you know what, you're right thats too long and I gotta retire soon"

"fuck it, how about I add both Kaido AND Big Mom in the same arc? this way I take out 2 yonkos with 1 stone and only Shanks D. Snitch will be left to get offscreened by BB later"

"now we are talking Oda-sensei... this will surely give us more volume sales through H Y P E of 2 yonkos? correct?"

"oh you bet"
This is God tier lmfao.

I wanted to say Goda tier but not sure if that would be a compliment then lmao.

Fantastic stuff anyway!

I don't think luffy had any reason to return back, he already got her poneglyph. oda might have made another false commitment seeing scenario of WCI back then people wanted WCI to be liberated so bad.

Except the Big Bitch fans... nobody, not even Oda, wants another arc of the Big Bitch crying for Semla/Oshiruko.
Time to move on to Shanks & Blackbeard.
I don't want her back. But it does leave a bad taste in mouth that Luffy kept blabbering about something he was never gonna do.

Basically, this is the Luffy equivalent of Yamato yapping "I will join Luffy's crew" and then chosing to stay behind.

Big mom was literally the first Yonko Luffy challenged all the way back on FI….

Oda clearly ruined the character but to act like he didn’t have other plans for her or she had zero build up as an antagonist is nonsense.

So what was the point then of even creating Big Mom? What was the point of the 80 chapters of WCI? If this was the resolution of Big Mom then there was absolutely no reason to create her and waste 80 chapters on her.

In WCI

and

Like rly?It was a rly big Lorepoint and future event in FMI.Backed up with the WCI Arc.But now all of this stuff, build up over 10 years, thrown away into the trash?Currently,i see no reason why Luffy should deal with BM or anyone else bar BB at this point of the Story.Assuming BM is dead, makes this woule thing even more irrelevant

What do you think
Kaidou came as a bigger power obstacle while Oda wanna shorten the saga so he made BM fall by Law and Kidd...but still it serve Luffy's purpose since BM has been defeated now anyways. So imo Fishman Island can already be Luffy's turf now.

Yeah, people keep somehow forgetting that the whole point was beating her and claiming FI. Now that the other two are famous for beating her it doesn't make sense

Big mom wasnt even the main antagonist of WCI. She was dealt with by sanji.

Luffy and BM barely interacted in WCI

What were the other plans?

When do you think BM should have been defeated?

Luffy vs BM was dead the moment:
  • Luffy stole her poneglyph
  • Smoothie was a woman
  • Katakuri wasn’t a swordsman
  • Luffy defeated the BMP commanders
After this, her being Kid and Law’s hypetool was the best thing Oda could have done with her.

He defeated her in WCI but not through a fist fight. He defeated her through his actions when he prioritized getting Sanji back by fasting and rejecting anybody else's food while BM was destroying her own island and friends to get her wedding cake. In this case he proved to be a more worthy pirate king than her because a king doesn't prioritize his own desires over the well being of his own comrades. People logically deduced that there can never be a direct confrontation between the 2 after learning everything about her and her abilities in WCI and that Luffy's words aren't meant to be taken as literal foreshadowing. In this case and as a part of the old generation alongside Kaido, the more natural outcome was for her to lose against the new generation, the plotline that started in PH and climaxed in Wano.

Not everything is bad writing
