Character Discussion So Kaido is right!? Might does in fact make right?

Might makes right is possibly the only insight into Kaido’s character from this flashback and I’m wondering, is he right?

Kaido seems quite content in the fact that Joyboy must be the person that beats him. And given the previous dialogue from Kaido, he also believe Joyboy is the person that will change the world

So basically Joyboy will be the person who will change the world AND they must beat Kaido. This is what Kaido thinks. And he’s right. Indeed the qualification for Joyboy is in fact the capability to beat Kaido in this regard

Which proves Kaido correct. Might makes right. Joyboy is Joyboy because he’s strong enough to be Joyboy. And to be strong enough, he must defeat Kaido.

This is quite bizzare thematically for Oda to prove the villain correct right? Has this happened before? Is this a good message? Is this supposed to be a good message?

Remember doffy's speech? Might makes right is a really important thematic in one piece and it's been insisted on specially during marineford "to save your brother you need more than just guts" without his strength luffy can't set things right or help people, the difference between kaido and luffy is that despite the two of them representing that philosophy luffy actually cares about other people

No need to overcomplicate it:

1) Kaidou controls Wano.

2) Joy Boy will be the one to open Wano.

3) In order to open Wano you need to defeat Kaidou because he controls it and isn't letting anybody screw his territory.

Therefore, whoever ends up opening Wano must have defeated Kaidou first, and both figures are Joy Boy.

It's not necessarily about strength qualification but syllogistic logic:

>The person opening Wano is Joy Boy.

>The person opening Wano must defeat Kaidou first.

>Therefore, the person defeating Kaidou is Joy Boy.

Kaido and Luffy are similar but Luffy has empathy for people weaker than him or people that can't protect themselves, while Kaido doesn't. They both solve problems by smashing them. MIght has always made right in the series because Luffy solves everything by beating the shit out of a bad guy.

the difference between luffy and kaido's ideologies is that luffy believes that because the strong have more freedom to do what they want, they should use their strength and freedom to ensure that everyone else is free too, even the weak, he is a liberator. kaido believes that the strong have the right to control the weak, to use their freedom to destroy their freedom. both believe that force is necessary for freedom, the difference is that one uses freedom to create more freedom and the other to destroy freedom. luffy, joyboy, roger, dragon, all share the same belief, while kaido, doflamingo, blackbeard, and many other villains in the series, share the same belief.

Luffy's ideology doesn't revolve around strength. He believes he needs to be strong to protect the people close to him

if he believes that he needs to be strong to protect his friends, then he believes that strength is the necessary means for him to get what he wants, in this case, ensure the safety of his friends. it does not revolve around strength, it is not strength for the sake of strength itself, but the strength necessary to do what he wants, the strength necessary to be free. he wants to be "the freest of all", the one who is able to guarantee that everyone is free, and to do that he must have enough individual strength to compensate for the collective's lack of strength. the pirate king.
