Current Events So...what the hell is going on with the Navy ?

Marines are basically soldiers. And soldiers, generally speaking, love to loot.

I mean, look at WWII. Both the Allies and the Nazis looted the enemy. Nazi’s did it on a larger scale, but there was plenty of it going on in the allied side as well.

You're right, but we are at a point in the story were we have characters like Fujitora for example who are marines yet are good. Akainu is a much better foil with his ideology to Fuji for example, that was a good conflict within the marines that showed two different sides to the organization.

A marine pointing a gun at a kid or a grandma at this point isn't really a good way to express that conflict. It was a throwaway fodder anyway, I just hope Oda won't have some more important marines be twirly mustache villains.

If the main conflict pre-timeskip is about "Marines vs Pirates", then post-timeskip we are seeing more and more of "World Government vs Anyone that won't take their shit", Revolutionaries, unaffiliated countries, affiliated countries that had enough, etc.

And yes this time the Marines are acting in a bad way different from what we've seen before. Mouse was taking bribes from pirates; Captain Morgan bullied the town and his own soliders. They were bad in a way that can be "fixed" by a good Marine of higher rank (e.g. Garp) and the disciplines themselves. But both Greenbull and the Marines in this chapter did nothing wrong by Marines' standards. This is where the Marines can no longer fix themselves for this problem lies at the core of Marines' value: the Marines, as a group, answers only to WG affiliated countries and so does its justice. This is why Revos are here to play the role they can't fulfill without rebelling against itself.

There have always been good and bad marines, most are good but not all of them. The new world ones were portrayed as particularly pirate-like, but that was referring to G5.

I thought, well these guys must be Ryokugyu subordinates they're hunting Warlords in the new world so whatever, but these guys weren't going after any warlord, in fact they were even surprised Weevil appeared

It was said that the navy gained a lot more military power under Sakazuki but could it be that they lowered their standards ? Not in terms of required strength to join but " if you were a criminal we'll close an eye and let you join as long as you obey us " i mean maybe these guys are actual pirates!



What do you guys think ? Is this an isolated events or we're likely to see more of these unruly Marines ?

The interesting part to me is not the fact that there are corrupt marines ( since we already saw that ) but the fact that they went as far as comparing them to pirates...which is qute a strong thing to say about guys that are supposed to hunt down pirates with all they've got!

CG are the true heroes of the story, the WG is finished.

the majority of the Pirates are still scum. They’re the worst after the CD’s/WG

The only entirely good fraction is the Revolutionary Army

You know how many kingdoms they liberated?
We only follow this story thorough Luffy's perspective and every other character is here to wank him, that’s the problem. This is why the Pirates are "good" and the Marines are "bad" for many people.
Yes the SHC helped a lot of people but liberating oppressed kingdoms and people is the daily bread of the Revo Army

Idk why people think pirates are good when it‘s only really the Straw Hats who are while the rest, even Law (who stole 500 hearts) can be qualified as less evil and more evil. The Navy has a lot of good people (Garp, Fujitora, Koby, Helmeppo, Smoker, Hina, Sengoku, Tashigi) and also people who do their jobs right. Just like in every army there are douchebags who like looting and abusing their power.
