Swordsmanship or sword fighting refers to the skills and techniques used in combat and training with any type of sword.

The manga doesn't need to tell us Mihawk is stronger than Shanks when his WSS title does that for him.

The manga telling us Mihawk has greater sword skill than Shanks is the manga explaining why Mihawk is stronger than Shanks.
