Some of the strongest and infamous crews in the world had them so why not the strawhats?
Rocks had kaido
Roger had shanks and buggy
Newgate had the dukes along with marco and likley others

Imo they will not get one cause it is too late, we don't even know if they will actually get a proper new crewmate (read Jinbe), also there are a lot of guests (Momo, Carrot, Caribou, Law etc) and every island / arc has so many people that it eclipses even the actual 9 SHs (bar Luffy) every time.

But there is also a sort of unofficial SH apprentice since almost the beggining of series and that is Coby.

I just read through the official translation of the Zou arc, they definitely referred to him as an apprentice...we’re also aware that Kaido (who definitely wasn’t a kid) was an apprentice with the Rocks Pirates. While it clearly doesn’t have to be someone young, all the others we’ve seen (Shanks/Buggy/Koala/Blackbeard) DID all join their respective crews as children, so Tama (even before considering her connection to Ace) is still the most likely candidate in my eyes.
