Imo Henry Cavil is the worst adaptation of superman

I have high hopes for this movie especially knowing that James Gunn is behind it, from the trailers it looks more upbeat and fun than the old DCU where the entire universe just felt like the other heroes visiting the dark and grimmey world if Gotham

I'm annoyed at how they squandered Cavill. He could have been perfect for Superman like Downey was for Iron Man or Evans for Cap.

Plus Man of Steel's fight scenes were AWESOME. Really made you feel like you were watching a pair of gods go at it.

As for this movie, I think it might do good. It looks like they're trying to channel the boyscout/protector aspect of Clark instead of a darker.

For a worldwide populace that's probably worn out from all the hysteria and outrages of the internet and all the tiresome gritty superhero subversions, an optimistic hopeful Supes might do the trick.

It also looks like they're to make Supes more vulnerable and less OP IMO. Let's see what happens.

Cavil's Superman wasn't the WORST lol, he was victim of Snyder's bad writing and WB for not giving him an 2nd movie.

But yeah, This movie really looks like it will bring the essence of the OG Superman

Thanks, my friend.

Well, talking more about this new movie.....

1- New Superman

I pretty much liked Henry Cavil as Superman, and MoS was promissing beggining for him...

However, Zack Snyder had the brillant idea in turn Superman into an edge lord cringe in BvS.....

even in Snydercut we see Evil Superman in Cyborg's vision, this is because in Snyder's original plans, Superman would become evil in Justice League 2.

Now talking about this new Superman, he looks pretty cool, i personally liked his new costume, and i hope he delivers such an happy and good Superman.

2- Lex Luthor.

Lex Luthor is the biggest DC villain after Joker,

and the last Lex Luthor adaptations in cinema has been awful, especially Jesse Eisenberg in BvS...

:kobeha::kobeha::kobeha::kobeha::kobeha::kobeha:

So i'm really curious about this new Lex Luthor adaptation...

@Yoho @Zoinks52 @MonsterKaido thoughts?

I like how bright the blue on CorenSupe's suit is. A nice cheery blue, way better than the deep blue they used for Cavill.

But tbh I like Reeves Superman's outfit the best.

I hope we get more of the freeze breath and X-Ray vision.

Luthor - yes, we need a good Luthor. I don't what Snyder was thinking with the long haired Luthor.

I hope with this one, we get to see his green power armour.

But I'm not sure if this Luthor has that sense of presence overall. He didn't stand out much to me when I last watched the trailer.

Which I guess is the thing, Corenswet seems cool too, but he doesn't have that "oomph" to him, you know? But let's see.

Also, what do you all feel about Supes having a no-kill rule?

I know many hated that aspect of MOS but I think Supes should have that option available for opponents who are too evil or strong to be left alone.

Making him a no-kill purist like Spidey or Bats is not a good idea IMO. Especially considering how powerful some of his opponents are.

That could be an entire debate, but talking short, i think it's the same as Batman. Although there have been stories where both Batman and Superman have killed, the no-kill rule is a totemic part of these characters.

For this to work, the author has to be very competent, otherwise he can ruin the character, as was the case with Injustice. Injustice Superman is simply horrible.

In the case of MoS, I think it was still too early for this, and the scene was very poorly done.

The best solution for this would be for him to send all the powerful villains to the Phantom Zone, but as I said, the no-kill rule is a fundamental part of the character.

I guess. Tbh I always took Supes as being one step removed from a no kill rule. Like he'll do everything to avoid death but in rare cases like Doomsday he'll do what he must if he has to.

But I get the other side of the debate too, Supes is an idealistic character so him not being able to save everyone or come up with a better option can be antithetical to what he represents.

Yeah that's why I think MoS should have been a sequel to a more lighthearted normal Superman movie. That way Zod's death could have had more impact.

Oh I hated Injustice. Superman was bad, Wonder Woman was worse, Batman was the worst of all and Harley Quinn was absolutely rancid. Justice Lords was so much better.

The problem is that most writers write Superman as an idiot. If Snyder were smarter, he would understand that Superman would never fight an extremely powerful being in the middle of a populated city like Metropolis, he would take the fight far away, like into space for example.

We needed this movie but Warner was the problem. The idea was that the second film would have Brainiac as the main villain, which is ironic because all the canceled Superman films had Brainiac as the villain. Then the idea was that we would have a Superman vs. Black Adam, after The Rock's film, until James Gunn rebooted the DCEU.

I pretty much like Injustice games, but the Comic Book and Injustice 2 plot were trash.

It looks good. The Snyder movies were terrible (all of them, even if the casting was great for the most part) so I'm open to whatever Gunn has to offer. Guardians 1 and 2, The Suicide Squad and even Burnbright were quite solid.

I just hope he doesn't overshadow Superman with the big ensemble of Superheroes that are also in the movie, he's too used to do choral superhero movies and that's not what works best for a Superman movie.

I think he did try to take it to space mid-fight, but Zod just yanked him back down to earth. That said he should've attempted to do so when the fight began.

Honestly I just love that fight even if it was untrue to Clark's character. The speed and power Supes and Zod showcased was phenomenal. If only Marvel had done the same with Thor and Hulk instead of gimping them in Endgame.

But yeah, Clark is very smart and a lot of media neglects this. I guess they sort of have to - it must be hard enough to write him with his level of power without adding super smartness to the mix.

Yes, Warner really didn't do their characters justice. I didn't know that about Brainiac lol, guess he's jinxed.

I would have loved to see Superman fighting Mongul. It would also work to have a more low-stakes movie focusing on a less experienced Clark dealing with say Toyman while living in Metropolis by himself for the first time.

Black Adam...they never do him justice. He hasn't been written well since 52. Rebirth ruined him and the Rock hardly made it better.

Post-Crisis Adam was awesome and would've been a match for Clark. He was a fallen champion, once a hero himself in his error but was too brutal and manipulating to be a good guy. He also had a code of honour IIRC as I distinctly remember him joining the JSA to clear his rep (and later manipulate them into freeing Kahndaq) and would not harm Billy in child form.

But he was a monstrously powerful fighter and a violent dictator. PC Adam was a million times better than his Rebirth version who as I recall is a child-killer, a jobber and has a worse design.

Sorry for the tangent lol, Adam was a character I used to be interested in back when I still read comics.

As for Injustice...yeah. The comics were really forced. I haven't played the games though but the design they chose for Superman in I2 was so gaudy and ridiculous.

Yeah, in terms of creativity, that was probably the best Superman fight in cinema.

Thor and Hulk became the two memes of MCU lol...:kobeha:

Yeah, a lot of Superman cancelled movies had Brainiac as villain
- Superman Lives
- Superman Flyby
- Superman Returns 2
- Man of Steel 2

back to the topic, i really liked that we'll see the Fortress of Solitude and some of Superman side characters like Krypto and Jimmy Olsen lol

Smallville's Luthor was also good...:BigW:

@Yoho Also, are you excited for the other heroes in the movie like Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl?
Nathan Fillion is a fantastic actor so I'm definitely excited to see him and I'm glad they didn't do Hal Jordan again there's a plethora of Laterns to choose from seeing that James Gunn decided to take a more unique approach and chose Guy Gardner as his latern is brilliant

Hawk girl is always hit or miss hopefully she's a hit here and I never heard of Mr Terrific tbh

Honestly despite what people say I feel sorrier for Thor than Hulk. He was created by Lee to go even beyond the Hulk and his powers have incredible potential.

He could and should easily be Marvel's Superman+Wonder Woman in terms of role and powerset but they keep turning him into a jobber. 2018 and 2019 were horrible years for him.

Hulk's treatment has been bad too but atleast he has a decent number of portrayals from older media and some recent comics where he's the top dog, even if the MCU screwed him over.

Yes, I really like that they're focusing on the mythos! I hope we'll see the Fortress fully.

Have you ever read Superman: Unchained? It's one of the better New-52 storylines and in it he has a bunch of alien weapons in his Fortress that he makes a whole power suit out of. It was honestly pretty dope.

I hope we'll get to see some similar cool stuff in the movies, like alien tech and memorabilia, as well as Clark interacting more with Lois, Jimmy and the DP gang.

I wonder what Krypto's gonna do. I was a bit surprised by his look, I thought he'd be a labrador.
