like the fact that Oda was able to visually display a difference between Zoro and Ryuma’s fighting styles is a feat on its own.

compare this to Zoro vs killer or Zoro vs king where you can’t really tell anything interesting about how they both fight. They just do generic slashes and blocks and counters

Yeah zoro vs ryuma was also good though I prefer zoro vs king/Kaku over it.

One Piece has pretty much never had good sword fights

I'd argue Zoro vs Kaku was pretty good but almost everything outside of that has been fairly meh at best

People say haki ruined them but like... not really? They've just never really been that good

Nearly every sword fight in One Piece consists of both fighters barely actually hitting each other (clashing) until one 1-2 shots the other and the fight ends

They aren't "terrible" but if you're looking for an interesting fight it's almost always gonna be between two fruit users

Zoro vs king is not better than Zoro vs Ryuma in terms of the actual sword fighting

I think the only interesting thing that happened in zor vs king was king’s sword stealing move. Outside of that it might as well have been a DBZ fight where people are just shooting explosions at each other

Haki is just a shitty implemented concept that is a net negative.

Last sword fight I actually liked was Zoro vs Ryuuma.

The problem isn't the swords; I believe it's Oda's inability to provide us with a visually appealing fight between two swordsmen.
