I've dealt with enough people who say shit like that to know it's never that simple. It's always a mask for what they really think/feel. Passing out the truth as a joke so make it "safer" to say it.
As I said before, you guys either have a very disturbed sense of humour and you find that funny for some weird reason, then all the more power to you, sounds like masochism/self hate to me personally or its not really a joke and its a personal dig disguised a a joke.
